The name was later used for the team Star-Lord formed to deal with galactic-level threats in present day. The present day team's name was influenced by a member of the 31st century team who had time traveled to the present.

    So Marvel gave us a series by Dan Abbnet with the original Guardians from Earth 691 which lasted what 6 or 7 issues then got cancelled with the SW event (yes, I'm reading the Korvac Saga). So far I've haven't seen any indication that its coming back.

    I really like the original Guardians and enjoy Dan's work on them. I guess what was the point to start a series and then close shop so quickly on it?

    My guess is that Marvel wanted to test the waters for the oGOTG while also giving Abbnet something to do as per his contract.

    Whose knows they might come back later in some fashion, also this wasn't the only series to be cancelled after summer.
