Green Lantern Begins Filming In September
Still no word on casting. I have to admit that it doesn't seem like a lot of time to make the movie. They'll have just over a year to film the scenes and then add the special FX. We know that there will be scenes set on Oa and (most likely) in space. Perhaps the technology is in place where they can add the FX easily. Also, since they have a production office, they could be getting a start on things before the filming takes place.
A few years ago my wife "forced" me to watch Worth Winning and Stealing Home. Now, seeing Mark Harmon on NCIS, he would have been my pick to play Hal Jordan. He's probably too old now, and I have no idea who would be good for the role. Maybe lightning will strike again and a total unknown like a Christopher Reeve will make their debut. I couldn't see a big name star - like say Tom Cruise - take on the role. It's gotta be somebody like an Aaron Eckhart - a guy who's a character actor. As much as I'd like to see the FX, I'd like to see some Air Force, or Ferris Air Craft flying sequences. Like maybe something from Top Gun. I'm trying not to get too excited too soon. But, I do think it's about time!
I am crossing my fingers for this one. And I really hope comic book movie directors and producers learned something from the Watchmen, comics are ready made for the movie industry. Movies are basically planned out just like a comic with little story boards.. the only thing those boards don't have are word bubbles. I just hope they don't fudge GL up like they did the Superman movies.
"The Green Lantern" Has $150 Million Budget.
Warner Bros has decided to shoot The Green Lantern at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney. THR is reporting that the film’s budget is confirmed at a minimum of $150 million. To put that in perspective, Fantastic Four was $100M, Iron Man was $140M, Watchmen was $150M, The Dark Knight was $185M, X-Men: The Last Stand was $210M and Spider-Man 3 topped $258M.
But why Australia? The reported $150 million budget is worth a lot more in Sydney. The production was attracted by the decline in value of the Australian dollar, a 15% location rebate from the Australian federal government, on top of the incentives supplied by the New South Wales government.
The film is planning to begin in July with actual filming scheduled to start in November. The film is currently set to hit theaters on December 17th 2010.
