It's the moment you've been waiting for! John Stewart is back in the saddle again as Earth's new protector. Let's just say that he's not easing back into the job. John must learn to confront his past while he contends with the crimes of today. Sentinel lends a hand as this veteran Lantern discovers his new role and the potential for an ultra-violent future.

New York City, 3:26 am- John Stewart breaks up a smuggling ring that was trying to smuggle in some illegal aliens, but due to their disregard for human life, the smugglers have killed several of the illegal aliens.

The next day, John and Alan Scott are playing chess, and discuss the previous days events. Their game is cut short when they stop an armed robbery. John and Alan part on good terms, but Alan says something that makes John head to the Slab.

While at the Slab, John goes to see Fatality, and thanks her for helping him realize he was not really paralyzed. But Fatality only vows to kill John Stewart and everyone he ever loved.

John then heads back to New York where he stops a mugging and makes a new friend.
