Team » Gold Saints appears in 17 issues.
He is one of the 12 Guardians of Sanctuary, with the Sagittarius as his destined constellation. Aiolos is the infamous gold saint who died protecting Athena when she was an infant.
Leo Aioria is one of the characters in Saint Seiya, a manga by the manga-ka Masami Kurumada. Aioria is a powerful saint of the 12 Guardians of Sanctuary. Aioria is Aioros's younger brother. When he was small, he always looked up to his big bro as his model. But after Aioros saved Athena and was killed by the Pope and Shura and was called a traitor, Aioria was looked down at as the traitor's brother. Out of all that peer pressure, Aioria started hating Aioros and swore to become a qualified Saint and would be faithful to the Pope to prove his faithfullness. Later his determination was affected by Seiya and the Bronze Saints, and Shaina's love for Seiya. He went back to confront the Pope who hypnotized him so he lost all his senses until he killed someone, who was supposed to be Seiya but turned out to be Cassios, Shaina's student and admirer. Aioria then realised who was right and who was wrong and, well, got back to normal again and became a faithful Saint to Athena.
Aldebaran is one of the 12 Guardians of Sanctuary, with the Taurus as his destined constellation. He was the physycally strongest of the Gold Saints of modern era.
Gemini Saga once claimed that Aphrodite was the most beautiful among all the Saints. Kurumada named him after the greek Goddess of love and beauty as a reference to the Greek myth associated to the Pisces constellation.
He is a Gold Saint, guardian of the temple of Aquarius, and also Cygnus Hyoga and Kraken Isaac's master in manga. In the anime, he was the master of the Crystal Saint, who was Hyoga and Isaac's master
Cancer Deathmask was a Gold Saint and the most vicious compared to all of them. His constellation is Cancer and initially was a guardian of sanctuary along side 11 other Gold Saints.
He is one of the oldest characters in the manga next to Aries Shion, as they both appear in the previous Holy War, and is most known by his role as Dragon Shiryu's mentor. Dohko, Draco Shiryu's master, is generally known as Roshi, or old teacher, that's probably out of respect for his age and position. Dohko is the only living Saint from the last Sacred war over 200 years ago, the other being Shion, the former Pope killed by Saga. They were the only survivors from the last Sacred war and each assigned a duty, Dohko's being to watch over the tower that seals the 108 Hades Spectors. Dohko looks like an old man but he actually is only 18. Athena granted him the method of faking death(age), so each year he lives only correspond to one day of a normal human. When in case of emergency, he can turn back to his young, handsome self again(of course he can't shrink back to an old man afterwards). This became useful in the Hades chapter when Shion was revived by Hades to kill Athena, and Dohko, not knowing that Shion and Saga's deeds was for a good cause, transformed and rivaled Shion, none of them seem to be hurt from their conflict though. Dohko was a greatly respected Saint and he was very wise, after the war with Ares he became the leader of all the Saints, as the Pope didn't exist anymore. During the war with Poseidon Dohko realised that Hades was going to revive soon and he ordered that all Gold Saints to stay in the Sanctuary, thus resulting in Seiya and co fighting alone, again.
The leader of The Marinas keeps his identity secret for conquering earth
Milo believed in the Pope's story that Athena was killed by Aioros as a baby and Saori Kiddo was an imposter. So Milo took his mission on going to Andromeda Island and practically destroyed everything there. Later in the Sanctuary when Hyoga fought Milo, his determination weakened as he saw how hard the Bronze Saints fought for Saori, and after being defeated by Hyoga, Milo became faithful to Athena. Milo seems somewhat stubborn and a bit simple-minded, or at least un-forgiving. For later on when Saga's twin brother Canon became decent and joined Athena, Milo refused to accept him and attacked him, but after seeing Canon endure even his most powerful Antares needle without defense, he changed his mind about Canon. Milo later died in breaking the Signing Wall in Hdes' world with all the other Gold saints, whether alive or not.
He is one of the bronze saint's most trusted allies, and serves as the man who repairs damaged cloths in the early stages of the series. Mu is also a gold saint, one of the strongest. Mu is my favorite character, because I admire greatly his calmness, unworldliness and aloftness. Mu is very powerful but he doesn't show his powers much, only in the Hades chapter which unfortunately was never made into anime. Mu also has the ability of healing clothes, which became very helpful to the Bronze Saints. Mu has a young apprentice named Kiki who also helped the Bronze Saints out during the chapter with Poseidon. Other than that, Mu didn't do much. He was pretty much neutral in the battle between Athena and Ares and he trusted the Bronze Saints to defeat the sea shoguns. He was helpful in the Hades chapter however when he killed numerous Spectors and at last sacrificed himself for Athena like all other Gold Saints.
Along with Leo Aiolia, Saga disguised as the Pope was the first Gold Saint that Masami Kurumada introduced in his manga, although their rank was revealed until later volumes. In his first appearance, Saga presided the event in which Pegasus Seiya acquired the status of Saint. In the anime adaptation, he was introduced in identical manner, in episode 1. Saga served as the main antagonist for the Sanctuary arc. Being an excellent strategist, Saga managed to put himself in control of the sanctuary (though unfairly) for many years. Before the final showdown between himself and Pegasus Seiya, Saga was portrayed as a mysterious being with his facial features hidden from view. Kurumada described Saga and Kanon in his manga (vol.7) as being extremely beautiful. This was probably a reference he made to the myth associated to the Gemini Constellation, which represents Castor and Pollux, brothers of Helen of Troy. Saga is often described by other characters as someone with the kindness of an angel but with the darkness of a demon. This ambivalence ended up creating a split personality: a good Saga that was extremely loyal to Athena and an evil one that keep the control of the body most of the time and killed the previous Pope to steal his place. Sometimes it is hinted that the creation of his "bad" personality had the influence of some external force (Hades or Cronus), although nothing was clearly stated. When it takes the control of Saga's body, his hair turn from blond to jet-black (the color schemes were altered for the anime, in which Saga's normally blue hair turned light grey). Saga's two "sides", can also communicate between them : in a dialogue the good Saga reproaches his evil "side" to have forced him to hurt Athena.
Shaka is one of the Twelve Gold Saints. As the guardian of the House of Virgo along the path of Sanctuary, Shaka has played a pivotal role chiefly in the battle between Athena and the Pope. With those long blonde hair and graceful figure, but he actually isn't as fraile as he might appear. Shakka is said to be the Saint clothest to God and he talks to the Buddha since he was small(?). Shakka closes his eyes usually because he stores his cosmo inside and he is afraid of letting out too much power to kill everything when he opens them. In the Ares battle Shakka fought Ikki, who tried to kill them both together, however Shakka saved Ikki with Mu's teleportation help. Shakka didn't seem to care much about being on anyone's side, he seems to keep to himself pretty much. That doesn't mean he's reluctant or unqualified, he did fight all his might in the Hades battle. And he was very wise too, he knew the only way to get to the underworld with full power(everyone else lost 90% of their attack power when they got into Hades' territory) was to go in there dead, so he let Saga and co kill him.
Shura belongs to the fabled rank of Gold Saint hierarchy among the other 11 Gold Saints. His guardian constellation is of the zodiac sign of Capricorn.
Sion is the ancient Gold Saint of Aries. He appears on Saint Seiya Manga
