why are they using a younger team for Apocalypse 2016?

For X-Men Apocalypse why is a younger team being used instead of the older team?

Isn't Apocalypse a continuity of X-men days of future past?

Correct me if i'm wrong, since I don't exactly know the story arc.

X-Men First Clas, DoFP are part of trilogy that tells the story of the younger X-Men...

Hence in Apocalypse, it will show Scott, Storm and Jean's joining of the X-Men.... Completing the Young X-Men story

Love the Jean Grey pick for this movie. Not thrilled with the Storm and Cyclops casting though. The guy from Kingsman would have been a better pick than who they have and the Storm is just a joke

X-men: Apocalypse.... takes place in the 80's. at the end of DOTFP wolverine wakes up in the X-mansion in the new timeline but doesnt remember anything about the new timeline as stated he is the only one that remembers the original timeline and the last thing he remembers about the new timeline is that he was thrown into the water by magneto. as far as the setting and why the movie is taking place in the 80's is because Xavier is telling wolverine about what happened to him after he was pulled from the river by Mystique/Stryker. like in Legion Quest/Age of Apocalypse comic arc with mutants being revealed to world alot earlier apocalypse rises up and tries to take advantage. also wolverine showed young Xavier some of his future as well as some of the x-men hence xavier already knows about scott, jean, & storm therefore he was already waiting for them before he originally did. (hopefully wolverine showed him enough so that we dont have a repeat of FOX's version of the phoenix.)

This is basically a retcon of the original X-Men movie series, as indicated by the ending of DofP. We can presume that in this new timeline, Jean survived and mastered her powers, Bobby and Rogue continued to date, and that ultimately enough of the junior team members survived to become teachers as evidenced by the fact that Kitty is shown teaching (perhaps as a professor, an associate professor or as a graduate student).
