How did you first discover the X-Men?
I saw the promo for a re-airing of "Pryde of the X-Men" on my deceased grand-uncle's TV, and wanted to figure out who they were. I did research, and found a copy of some of the original team's series at a cheap price at a comic store, so purchased a few of those, and "Dazzler" issues for $0.25 each. Some of my brother's friends gave me old copies of their "X-Factor" and "New Mutants" series. That Christmas, I asked for a copy of the Marvel Masterworks' "Giant Size X-Men" reprint which cost $20 or so dollars (which was a lot of money for a kid). This started a lifetime of following the non-standard X-Men stories, where I was almost always reading storylines that were written a decade apart concurrently, such as reading "X-Factor #1" at the same time as the Havok/Polaris/V. Cooper lineup.
In about 1981 or so I only read science fiction comics (Marvel Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Micronauts...) they had an issue where the Micronauts teamed up with Nightcrawler in the Danger Room, (the rest of the X Men were in a few panels on one page) and I was hooked. This was back during the second Claremont/Cockrum run (just before the Brood saga). Gooooddd times.
I first became aware of them from the 90s animated series, although I was a little too young for it at the time. I didn't become a fan until the first live-action movie.
What's an X-Men?
Ooooh, I know. They are a team in this comic from 1963, that was largely a failure and got canceled, and then was revived in 1975, and for 15 years was written by a writer who brought them to fame, and ever since then they have been riding that 3 decade old wave.

Hmm...you sure your not thinking about Aquaman?
X-Men TAS. Watched it, fell in love with Magneto, and then tried to get my hands on any comic I could grab with him in it. Then later on I read NYX because I was interested in Kiden, liked X-23 in that and read everything I could with her in it, following her into New X-Men and I got obsessed with that.. and so on.

Sounds like Doom Patrol.

nah. I said they were only canceled once.
Happened upon a comic shop was I was a kid. Started out liking Dr. Strange but discovered Storm in a What If comic and was hooked. Been buying X-Men comics ever since.
Still the GOAT intro.
My dad told me about his X-men comic collection around the same time I started watching the 90s cartoon. I'm not sure which came first.
90's cartoon when i was a kid
i like the 90's cartoon stories better then the comic books
I would say something snarky, but you were just a kid. :)
Fake marvel cards were sold by Street vendors here in Manila, Philippines. Apparently, i instantly fell in love with the Excalibur and marvel girl. I never knew about the x-men but collecting these cards made me addicted to x-men. I started slipping meals to buy original cards and comics. It was the pinnacle of x-men's fame in our country. Jim Lee did the cards and comics. Kids and adults would watch x-men animated series together.
If I hypothetically stated it was X-Men: Evolution, would you I be killed by the x-men fans on this site?
My older brother was an Avengers fan and my parents got this black and white giant plastic Marvel poster that you could color for him (I was more into DC back then) and it had everybody from Marvel on it and I saw the X-Men, and was like "who are they?" then shortly after Spiderman and his amazing friends did an X-Men episode ( it was one of the origin stories of either Firestar or Iceman) and I was hooked on all things mutant, left DC in the dust and never looked back.
X-Men: The Animated Series
1988. In highschool my friend discovered I was a big Mighty THOR Walt Simonson fan and introduced me to Classic X-Men with covers pencilled by Arthur Adams. I was intrigued and started reading the current issues (right after Mutant Massacre) plus all the Classic X-Men issues. I was hooked for the rest of Claremont's and Lee's runs.
