How would you rate Star Wars episode 7?
4 stars for me. I liked all of the new characters and the returning characters did amazing too. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because of the carbon copy formula from a new hope. I see why they did it but and it didn't bother me much at all but it is my only major criticism.
@purple_d_dragon: Struggling with his feelings and killing someone in order to become stronger... yep sounds about right
Why don't people like Ren?
No clue. He was my favorite character.
I don't understand bad ratings. some people just dont like anything.
haters gon hate man.
4/5. Fun movie, great performances, and a nice blending of old and new characters. But the plot was largely predictable and unoriginal (borrow way too much from its own predecessors), and the humor was super-hammy a lot of the time. A bit more subtly in the humor rather than the cheap laughs would've been appreciated (looking at you, Finn). Still rank it pretty high amongst other Star Wars movies though.
I'm sure this movie gave birth to a new generation of star wars fans. It's basically an updated version of New Hope.

This is exactly what I was going to say.
I definitely think it sets up the new trilogy well with a solid cast going forward, they just need to be more ambitious in the scripts.
It was good, but it brought nothing new or exiting to the table. I'm not hardcore SW fan, nor have I seen the other movies, but this move has at least gotten me interested enough to want to check out the sequel.
Ehhh... 4 stars. Predictable rehash, humor was rough, Kylo jobbed and the actor wasn't intimidating enough, fight scenes were subpar.
That being said great CGI, great music, great actors for the most part, great story (it should be considering the source), great fanservice, they really cared about making sure to introduce a lot of the main characters from the original trilogy and it made me smile a lot in spite of myself finding it cheesy.
5. My new favorite Star Wars film. Absolutely stunning. Deeper characters that were instantly likeable, better space battles, more complex villain than Vader ever was, first main female Jedi was awesome, loved the character development, especially for Finn, and the Force was restored to its rightful glory rather than some video game garbage
5. Don't know why people are still b!tching about Kylo Ren. Sure, he's not the most intimidating and skilled villain ever but his character background and traits are among the most interesting and relatable ones I've seen in the Canon Star Wars universe so far.
@life_without_progress: I totally agree. He is probably one of the most interesting Star Wars characters and I dont get the hate.
I gave it a three so many people are over rating it because of the hype when its not as good as they make it seem there is plenty wrong with it.
Peoples problem with Kylo is his acting was so stiff in it. Under the helmet he was a bad @ss with it off he came off like a whiny little brat who didn't get his way.
Another thing I didn't like? How was girl Luke suddenly able to use the force when as she met Han she though jedis and the force was all myths. So she goes from like not knowing its real to suddenly be so adept at it that she is able to beat back Kylo whos been training in it for years? It took Look three movies to get that proficient.
Easily 4 stars. The characters and acting are extremely well done, especially Kylo Ren, Rey, and Finn. It's a great movie with some flaws, though they're not substantial and lots of people are trashing the movie out of spite because they don't share the majority opinion, which is a hilariously petty thing that happens on the internet.
This film had it's flaws. But it did right won me over. I give it a (9.5/10). I wrote a review on my blog, but I'll try and sum up here:
- The Score: Music is a very important to a Star Wars film and films in general imo and The Force Awakens had a fantastic score. John Williams is just phenomenal. Maybe the score doesn't stick out but it enhances every single scene. It is surely my favorite score of the year and one of my favorite scores. Some standouts are "Rey's Theme", "The Scavenger", "Rey meets BB-8" etc. This score... actually makes me want to cry.
- The Presentation:This is by far one of the most beautifully shot films that I have watched. The first shots in Jakku just blew my mind. The scenery and locations of the film... just beautiful. I now know how the people that experienced the Original Trilogy when it first came out felt. This was just a breathtaking film. Beautiful imagery mixed with John William's amazing score make this a film that had a lot of thought put into it's presentation.
- Characters:All of the characters and actors were excellent. John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver were all phenomenal in their roles, all of the characters were endlessly watchable, hilarious and relateable. Too be honest, re watching the old films Luke is a bit of a cringe worthy protagonist. Really awkward. Han Solo was also utilized brilliantly and provided some of the movie's most powerful story beats. Harrison Ford... can still play Han Solo.
- The Villain:Outside of this site, most of us agreed that Kylo Ren was a phenomenal character. His characterization was fantastic. He's just this guy that wants to be like Vader, thinks he's top shit, but in actuality, he is prone to temper tantrums, let's anger get the better of him, and isn't actually scary behind the mask. He isn't just a villain - he's a fleshed out character that looks to have a character arc laid out ahead of him that I cannot wait to follow.
- The Feels:Oh gosh. This felt exactly like a Star Wars film. They actually managed to capture the sense of wonder, excitement and adventure that we fell in love with in our childhood. The music, the setting, the opening, all down to the cheesy screen transitions. I CANNOT believe they actually nailed the spirit and soul of those movies. It just makes me so happy.
That's it. Well, not really. I've got more to say but you can read my review for the rest.
3 out if 5 for me I think. While I liked the new characters and think the actors did a great job the ep4 rehash was unwelcome and the plot holes too glaring for me to overlook. When I say plot hole I'm not talking about Reys family or other things that will obviously explained in the next two. I'm talking about R2 just waking up, the whole map idea etc. We shouldn't need to read JJ interviews for explanations.
Nor should nostalgia make a movie great. It was good but not great.
It was painfully unoriginal. It's a cop out to basically copy the same plot IMO. Finn is great though. Easily more interesting than Rey despite some minor things that annoyed me about him.
