Marvel Announces Tom Holland Will Play Spider-Man, Jon Watts to Direct

Marvel announced that not only did they find a director for their next Spider-Man film, but they also found their new Peter Parker. Tom Holland will be playing the role of Peter Parker and Jon Watts, the director of "Cop Car" will be directing the film.

The next Spider-Man film will hit theaters, IMAX, and 3D on July 28, 2017. Producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, along with Marvel and Sony Pictures, had a search for the actor to play Peter Parker and for the person to direct the film.

Pascal seemed pleased about the casting choice of Holland.

“Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

I don't know who that kid is. I thought Asa Butterfield was going to be Spider-Man. I loved him in "The Boy In The Striped Pajamas" and "Ender's Game," but i guess we can't get everything we want right?

Super pumped for this. We're finally getting a teenage Spidey, and the director is a brand new talent that should be able to give a unique spin on the franchise.

I'll miss Andrew Garfield, but i'm good with this. I hope Tom knocks it out of the park.

To bad we couldn't have gotten an adult Peter Parker. Marvel will never let Spider-Man grow up.

He was amazing in The Impossible. He looks so much younger than the average 19 year old boy.

I'm glad. Hollywood has made people think that teenagers look like 20-30 year olds.

Well he was solid in his small part on Wolf Hall no clue about the director but honestly I'm kinda bored of Spider-man/Peter Parker at this point.

Wanted O'Brien, but he's the best choice of the people we knew were running for it.

As long as Marvel, and not Sony, had the bigger hand in this then I'm fine with it. They haven't made a bad casting choice yet.

How old is this kid? He doesn't look like he's a teen yet. Hope for the best though.

I was looking forward to my favorite super hero finally being with all the other super heroes. But this casting for this guy just kills it for me. When I see this guy I don't think Peter Parker or Spider-Man at all.

Like many others I was hoping we would see an older Peter for this go around of Spidey. However, I am excited to see what Marvel can do with the character and if Marvel have faith in this kid for the part then he must be pretty good.

He's not going to be in the movie in any large capacity, if at all. Most likely he will be a post-credits tease.

I still want to see a 'Spider-Verse' movie with all the Live Action stars they can get. (Even Electric Company guy and Nicholas Hammond.)

A sound choice. Loved the kid in The Impossible and I know Watts well from his work on The Onion.

ROFL, the man-child of the Mephistoverse is the farthest thing from a grown-up in the regular comics. Renew Your Vows Peter is the true adult out of the pair of them. Same with the late "MC2" version of Peter.

I wanted Asa Butterfield....mostly I just wanted to see what they would do about the height difference between him and RDJ but he's a good actor too lol

I thought he looked too young, thanks for the updated picture. At least with him they can do a lot of sequals without worrying about him looking too old.

I could not be more unexcited to see what Marvel does with Spider-Man.

I think Tom Holland will be a good Parker...And it also makes more sense to have a teenage Spider-Man because if he wants to be a good hero, he might be looking to The Avengers for inspiration. I wonder if Mary Jane will be in it this time.

Well alright. The movies seem to draw a lot of inspiration from the Ultimate Universe, so it makes sense that Pete's young(er). And since Sony's going for a reboot, young Pete also makes more sense.
