The Empire of Regalius
The Empire of Regalius is one of order, peace, and prosperity. Founded on the customs of old the people of the now destroyed Andromeda sought to build themselves a new home founded on those principles. This directly translates into the architecture and the style of the empire, based on the Retronus period of Architecture(the one used before the empire was destroyed) the capital city of Andromeda is filled with stunningly beautiful and grand buildings. Most construction is made from Marble and other fine resources.
The Wall of Prosperity
The wall surrounding the capital is one of the most prominent features as it frames the entire location. It’s semi star shape with four main points earned the city the nickname of the Four Points of Prosperity. The 90 ft tall Proadine wall serves primarily as a line of defense against the beasts of the outlands however, to those inside it is a symbol of hope and Prosperity. Due to the way the Regalius society functions those who live inside the walls are often met with prosperous lives compared to those exiled to the outlands.
The wall is regularly patrolled by the Sheathe and is equipped with four entrance/exit points. These are used to get the carrying convoy in and out of the city. Whether it’s a tourist convoy or a hunting convoy the process is still the same. There are two gates, the first opens allowing a convoy to enter a large and enclosed hallway. The door behind then sealed, the convoy decontaminated, and then another large door opens allowing them into the city.
The Capital City of Andromeda
The capital city of Andromeda is the pinnacle of the empire and for good reason. It’s buildings reach up and touch the skies, it is the home for people once homeless. It is protected, it is safe, and it is the last bit of home their race has.
The construction inside the walls is marvelous in that it cascades as you move further into the city. From the point of one of the four corners buildings are rather small one story homes however, as one moves closer towards the capital they grow taller, wider, and more complex. All leading to the center. This has led to the establishment of three districts, the Agricultural Districts, the Industrial District, and the Art District.
The Agricultural Districts
In each of the four points is where you will find what seems like an untouched by nature area however, it is all artificial. As a result of the Bio-Dome and Andromedean farming techniques the citizens of Regalius were able to establish an area devoted to growing a wide variety of flora. This ranges from Nighthawk trees (which turn polluted air from the industrial district into clean air) to Vegetables normally only found of Andromeda. The homes here are rather spaced out and are usually multi-family. It normally takes three families to support a single farm however, those farms produce the food to feed the entire nation though. Currently there are over 200 different farms in the Agricultural Districts combined.
The Industrial District
The Industrial District of Andromeda is located just past the Agricultural districts. Here is where most of the resources, clothing, food, and other commodities are made or processed. This is also where most of the people live and work, because of this there are very few actual houses. What you mainly have are four to ten story housing complexes mixed among the factories and workshops. These are usually made up of three bedroom condos for those who work in this district.
Unlike most industrial areas on Earth though, the Regalius Industrial area is a wonder in and of itself. It serves as a bridge between the superbly artistic architecture of the Art district and the more Rural architecture of the Agricultural districts. It is kept clean by street cleaners and window washers who ensure the area is as nice as possible. Atop some of the large buildings, that do produce pollution, are massive air filters that help reduce the amount of gas in the air. These air filters also push it towards the Nighthawk tree’s which then turn it into clean breathable air.
The Art District
Grand and wonderful the art district is the epitome of Retronus architecture. Massive buildings made from the finest marble with detailed sculptures carved into the sides. Large hanging gardens filled with some of the most beautiful flora in the empire. Walkways that are elevated above the crystal blue waters, crafted from the strongest crystal on Mars. The Art District is a place where creativity blooms and the decor shows this in full force. Located in the center of the city it is one of the most popular tourist destinations and home to not only the palace but, the Vers Core that powers the City as well as the Biodome generator.
The Biodome Generator
Located directly in the center of the Art district the Biodome generator is a massive set of twin spires that almost touch the sky. From between their points the biodome is produced and sent out to surround the city. This dome is what creates an Earth like atmosphere that allows the Andromedans to survive.(Read more about it in the Military and Technology Blog)
The Vers Core Maximus
The Vers Core Maximus is the largest vers core in the empire and is used as a primary source of power for the entire city. The water that flows through the Art district is in fact the same water produced and used by the massive vers core. Scattered throughout the city their are other smaller cores that are capable of powering each district should the Maximus go down.
The Palace
Located in front of the Biodome generator is the royal palace. This building is an homage to the original palace on Andromeda and the outside is lined with gold statues of it’s previous leaders. Located directly outside the main doorway is a statue of Alexander Cross holding hands with his with Mariana Cross.
Once you get through the main gate you are greeted by the main hall, wide arches and a high ceiling crafted from glass allow for sunlight to stream down providing natural lighting. The floor is a massive mural of the battle that occurred during the destruction of their planet made from individual small tiles. The walls are lined with solid gold plaques with the names of every man, woman, and child who died that day. There are over 50,000 plaques.
From the main hall there are two different hallways, one leads off into a private area where the bedrooms and such are kept. The other leads off towards the public bathrooms, the diplomatic meeting room, and the statue garden. If you keep going straight you are greeted with the throne room.
The throne room is a masterpiece itself. Large slabs of black marble make up the floor and steps leading up to the thrones. There are three thrones in total, the main throne crafted from gold, the empress's throne crafted from silver, and the prince's throne crafted from bronze. The emperor’s throne is located directly in the middle. Behind the throne stands a carving of the Sun and Moon sentinel fighting off a group of Darkspawn.
Society
The society of Andromeda is as it has been for years, a hybrid between communism and capitalism in which everyone is given the same opportunities to succeed but the paths they choose to take are their choice. They have their own religion which most everyone follows. At it’s core though they are a very military driven people. Soldiers are held in very high regards and they possess quite the large ground force however, the chances of them declaring war are very slim. As of right now they have regained a stable sense of happiness through laws and regulations, they aren’t willing to give it up to war just yet.
Economy
The Andromedean economy is founded on two very simple beliefs, the capital of the people leads to the growth of the economy and that you should be rewarded for doing the work you do. This has led to the founding of work laws which state that work is a required thing, choosing not to work leads to exile from the capital city(Being unable to work is a different story). All who work are given housing based on their job(if you’re a farmer you would live in the agricultural district, if your a blacksmith you would live in the Industrial district) as well as a regular wage to afford things like food and luxuries.
The primary form of currency on Andromeda is the Credit and a single credit is equivalent to 1.5 U.S. dollars.
Transportation
The primary mode of travel through Andromeda is the automobile, a concept taken directly from earth however improved upon to make it better for the environment. As of recently motorcycles have begun popping up thanks to the premier automobile company Undark. They make vehicles that are powered by Vers core’s and function much like the cars on Earth.
There are currently three manufacturers as of right now. Undark who creates luxury automobiles as well as luxury motorcycles, Epson who manufactures more affordable vehicles for the everyday man, and Divinus who manufactures military vehicles and public transportation.
Religion
Andromeda has always and will most likely always follow the religion of Pryafis. They practice the belief in the one true god Prya who created the universe in her own image. She created the Andromedeans in the image of her good and kind side while creating the darkspawn in the image of her evil side. There are many churches located around the city that can be used to learn more or even practice the religion.
Those who practice this religion tend to be very kind towards others. They hold themselves to high standards and are quick to condemn evil acts. They also believe that combat is required in defense of one's house and home only. This is why the empire rarely seeks to go to war with anyone as it is not a necessary time to perform combat.
Education
Education in Andromeda is one of the largest investments and is of an extremely high quality. The only way to increase the populous capital is to educate them after all. A complete education takes about 20 years at which time you are offered a lineup of starting jobs. After 10 more years you may choose to move up to a different position or stay where you are. This has led to a mostly happy population(of course there are those who shun the system.)
Education on one's body is also a very important and most children are taught from a young age that only producing a maximum of two offspring is the most beneficial way to prosper. The average age people begin having children is around forty(Andromedean equivalent to thirty).
Advancements in education have also led to increases in medical care, all citizens who work are given free health care. These advancements have lead to the life expectancy of the average citizen to become 110.
Tourism
Tourism is a very large portion of the Andromedean society, the people of Earth are all but welcome. The recent decline in racist sects has actually led to investments from the people into tourism. Located in some of the major cities on Earth are embassies that can get you a transport pass(it can also be done online). From that point you just simply travel to a launch site(usually located near airports) and head to Mars. You will land outside just outside the city where a convoy will escort you through the wall and into Andromeda. The trip usually takes two days but, to see the city is truly worth it.
