Depends on the power, If its like a Superman power set I'd force the world to pay me an annual tribute in exchange for me allowing people to still govern themselves
Monitor the entire omniverse while listening to Doctor Who's theme from 60s and seldom take any action and bang Jessie J while looking at countless multiverses. You can't get any better than this.
Retreat to Mars and spend a year or two learning exactly how to use my newly acquired near-all powerful abilities. Maybe build a city there, just for me. When I get bored, return to Earth and help people while remaining discrete, so that I'm not implicated: Making food appear around areas where people are starving, when criminals fire guns, they'll find them empty, etc. More people will miraculously recover from what should be fatal injuries. That kind of thing. Still helping people, but doing so with such discretion that no one ever realizes it's me.
That way I don't have to worry about any government trying to draft me and my superpowers to work for them, thus keeping me out of politics and thus not under any compulsion to destroy a government.
Telekinesis I hope first off I would seclude myself and start training how to use my powers for a few months. After that I would actually attempt to be a hero and help people.
I'd take supermans power set but with the ability to switch it off when I want. Then I'd just fly around space and look for new life, because that would be sweet.
I'd actually be a little apprehensive about using my powers in public, not only because I'd feel like I would be messing with the world's balance, but suits apprehending me for experiments sounds like a very real possibility :O
Destroy the entire timeline and create a new one that I find perfect (don't worry, I'd really only be changing things in my life. The only stuff that would impact other people would be stuff like Young Justice never being cancelled. And who doesn't want that?).
While it depends on the powers I would gain, I would try to make my life better with it, maybe have a little harmless fun with it (not so harmless for some people :P) and always be careful not to attract any unwanted attention.
Start to slowly manipulate those in power and get change happening without anyone the wiser (telepathically) and live life as usual, helping out with mundane things until I die - all incognito.
