Organized crime helped Miami's industrial economy grow back in the 80s. Coke and Crack dealers were buying cars, houses, and property all the time. Most of the major cities in America rely on organized crime and the drug trade like a crutch. It's a fund raising and bail out system for America's economy. It's one of the reasons that America's economy hasn't collapsed.

Now, as far as America's international affairs are concerned, organized crime is still needed. That's why well organized event's like 9/11 were executed in order for the American government to give itself an excuse to go into another country and rob it of it's natural resources or it's drugs. If you think 9/11 was really inspired by Islam then you should get your weight up.

This is what the self annointed "elite" believe in ...

Ok, I'll bite. For a moment here(as long as it takes to write an answer) I'll set aside my disbelief here, and try to treat it(the question) as a theoretical/hypothetical issue, or a creative challenge of sorts.

Now, in its current state, it's not overly beneficial. It is at a point where the downsides still outweigh the upsides by far, so so the purpose of this "creative challenge", I'll instead try to keep in mind, an organized crime that is more beneficial than not.

So, what would have to change for that to happen? Well, aside from, you know, the actual crime, the biggest downside to the way it is currently, is the major conflicts that arise, both between various organizations(gangs, drug cartels, etc.), as well as between organizations and the government(s). So it needs to be just 1 organization running all of it, instead of several competing ones.

Now that organized crime, for the purpose of this "creative challenge", is entirely run by one multi-national organization(presumably run by intelligent people), let's look at the possible benefits.

  1. Jobs. You have no money, no place to live, and you can't find a job? That's not a problem, there's this nice big organization that's always in need of an extra working hand, they are even capable of throwing in a small place for you to stay and 3 filling(if not necessarily good) meals a day, to sweeten the deal. This would take care of both the problem with unemployment, as well as homelessness, and even hunger to a certain point. And not just in one country, the organization is multi-national, remember?
  2. Drugs. With a lack of competition, and plenty of people to do production, it would make far more sense to make the product(drugs) of a higher quality. This lessens the chance of people getting killed by bad drugs, as well as the risk of people getting a 'bad trip', since that would be bad for business. A person that has had a bad trip on drugs, is less likely to come back for more, than one who had an awesome rush.
  3. Domestic Abuse. As a part of working for the organization, there is also a certain amount of protection. After all, it's bad for business if the organization's workers get beaten up and end up unable to work, or even get killed. Thus, the organization can(and will) take care of domestic abuse problems for you. Granted, it's a lesser benefit than the first two, but still a substantial one, when one considers how much of a problem domestic abuse actually is.
  4. Crime. Yes, ironically, it also lessens the amount of crime. Why is that, isn't that kinda backwards logic? Well, with no organized competition, the only crime that isn't controlled by the organization, is crimes of passion(usually violent), and crimes of need/greed. Random crimes by individuals would get struck down hard, because they tend to call the attention of the law enforcement, which is just plain bad for business.

I could probably think of more, but ADD is starting to be a problem now. I might add more later on though. And you're welcome to add your own :) or even do your own "creative challenge", with different criteria, than simply one big organization.
