I think there are better then him.
But most people regarded him as the greatest
What do you guys think?

He died at the peak of his popularity. Same happen to Biggie.
2Pac was great and influential but overrated. I think Nas,Biggie,Rakim, MF Doom,Eminem, and few others are better than 2Pac.
I'm looking forward to his movie though.
He was the greatest, because of his influence on hip-hop culture. A lot of rappers became rappers because of Pac. His marginal lyrical skill isn't what made him the greatest, but a lot of people seem to believe otherwise, even though there are number of rappers that were better lyricists than Pac was.
Also, Pac deviated from the norm in hip-hop back in those days, talking about social issues that affected minorities, as well as the way our society was built. This wasn't just in music, it was in interviews.

@static_shock: talking about social issues that affected minorities, as well as the way our society was built
I kinda agree with this because have one of 2pac's album 2pacalypse which was really great album espically Words of Wisdom(Best song on there in my opinion). But there have others like Grandmaster Flash who was rapping about his enviroment the way blacks were treated in there ghetto espically towards cops
Yeah, Flash and the Furious Five talked about that in the Message. Powerful song.
But, I was saying that at the time Tupac was hot, while everyone else was talking about Mafioso stuff, gangsta living and living large, Pac was talking about social issues here and there.

Oh alright that makes sense, White Lines is another good song
@homicidalmaniac: Nas,Biggie,Rakim, MF Doom,Eminem,
I agree with most of this espically Rakim
Influence on not just rap, but pop culture in general, versatility as an artist, plus he died at peak of his popularity.
Not to mention he had the best delivery in rap and a lot of people could/can relate to his music.
He isn't. Who's the "greatest" is clearly split in the Hip-Hop community. Hell, I would say B.I.G. gets more G.O.A.T. nods than Pac does.
I think Nas,Biggie,Rakim, MF Doom,Eminem, and few others are better than 2Pac.
You lost me with MF Doom, lolz.
It's because he was a huge icon, with influence beyond music. A lot of listeners were inspired by him and Pac related to them.
That being said, I personally don't think he's the greatest, if you want to base it on skill. You could definitely make an argument for it, though.
Pac is overrated as a rapper, underrated as a poet.
If you want to get technical Kool G Rap, Rakim, Nas, Pharoahe Monch, Eminem, and Elzhi are the greatest rappers ever.
When I said technical I was being literal.

Yeah, his delivery was phenomenal.

Monch is nice, and underrated, too.

You don't think MF doom is that good?
I've never considered Tupac as the greatest as far as a lyricist. Their are certainly better lyricist both before and after him. I can't speak for others but Tupac, for me at least, was more than just a "rapper" (even tho he was a great one) or a "Thug Life" poster boy... he stood for soooo much more, had incredible writing, was highly intelligent, had the ability to move move people as a leader, would speak out competently on social/society issues, was insanely charismatic AND was a decent actor on top of all that ...all those things combined with the fact that he was a great rapper makes him a icon of music and of pop culture.

I don't see the appeal. I don't take anything away from his skill, though.

It's similar to people like Ali, Marley, the Beatles, or any of those types...while there might have been some technically better than them in their respected fields, they elevated themselves higher than the rest because of what they wanted to do with their platforms.
As Tupac reached the top of the music scene, at his time, he wanted to drive awareness into the ears of his fans/followers and the rest of Hip-Hop. And, using gangsta rap to rise to the mainstream because of the controversy, his social points became bigger than him...and after his quick death, he became a martyr, a symbol for his teachings.
In a paraphrased quote of Alfred from the Nolan Batman series, "men can be beaten and broken, killed and forgotten. But, symbols will live on forever"....symbols are seen higher than men, and the immortalized idea of 2Pac is seen higher than the other mortal men who rapped before, after, and beside him....if I may romanize...

I could see that as a reason, Have heard his song Words of Wisdom?
Because pop culture is full of dick riders. It's okay to ride anybody who dies at any point in time in any medium but make sure to treat them like garbage when they're alive.
Most great rapppers are underground with a few exceptions in the mainstream.
Yeah..."Never Ignorant, Getting Goals Accomplished"...
Jammin' tune, with some major knowledge behind it...

Yesss!!!!!!!!! 2pac apocalypse was amazing album, I actually have it at home but think my parents got the album which is weird because they are very african.
Yeah, mi mother was a extreme Tupac fan, in the 90s (and still is). She was also very militant in those days, like him...she pointed the song to me...LOL

@staticdwanyemcduffie: It was Nas's response to this.

Honestly the song is mehh, I didn't really care for the lyrics the beat feels like turn-offfff
@staticdwanyemcduffie: Hence why Nas won the feud.

Nas will always be one of the greatest, Illimatic is just a classic hip-hop album
I respect 2Pac a lot, his words lives 'till today, he is making millions 'till today and he was pure realness. He may be the GOAT due to his impact, influence and background story. But... I gotta say. Technically, lyrically no one beat this guy here. K-Rino.
