  • I loved both...Kirk Douglas was absolutely brilliant in Spartacus..Even though tbh this was far from Stanley Kubrick's best.
  • But being a big geek for Homer especially the Illaid based adaptions...I found Helen of Troy to be a little more enjoyable...Even though Spartacus was definitely the better movie.

Spartacus was a good movie. I think it was slightly better than Helen of Troy.

I preferred Spartacus. It was more memorable to me. I honestly barely remember HoT, although I was a kid when I saw it, which probably has some affect on my view of it.

Ben Hur

over both? Kinda hard to compete with Charlton Heston but I'd be interested to see which the majority prefers.

@wolfrazer maybe ben hur/spartacus for your next comparison? (seems unanimous between HoT & spartacus)

@captain_inverse: I'd have to watch that one, though I'm trying not to do any repeats, so I'll have to think of another movie.

@wolfrazer: wellllll can't really blame ya for this one (it's like a 4 hour movie) but I do gotta say, your missing out on one of Charlton Heston's best performances.

If you enjoy him (Heston) at all as an actor, than you WILL like Ben Hur. no 2 ways about it

Spartacus. After Ben-Hur it's my favourite film set in the ancient Roman period. Another of my favourites although it has been accredited with hastening the demise of the ancient epic: The Fall of the Roman Empire. Some brilliant acting and a fight scene ending which rivals Gladiator.
