Punisher Third Person Shooter

How would you feel about a 3rd Person Shooter game starring Punisher?

It could play similar to Mass Effect, with a limited open-world scenario and a mostly mission-based system. This way you can stick close to the action while also having a limited open-world feel to it.

Or would you prefer a full open world that mixes games like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry with GTA and Saints Row? Say you could have a full open world feel, maybe even make it multi-city based and you could have a system of cleaned out territory like Saints Row or Far Cry.

Then if you kill enough Civilians you'd get a critical failure and have to restart from your last checkpoint. This way to stick close to Punisher's origin, and you make the game destructive and fun by putting him in a position where most of the people he encounters would be police officers, military/para-military personnel, or mobsters, gang members, etc....

Punisher would be a great character to base a game on due to his highly expansive weapon set that you could spend time upgrading, buying new guns for, buying hideouts, you could call in support from possible allies, call in the battle van to change out guns in the field, etc...

Marvel Black Ops

You could also mix it up and make a Marvel Black Ops game based around the more military-esque characters in Marvel. You would have a team of Captain America, Hawkeye, Punisher, Black Widow, Mockingbird, Winter Soldier, etc... and you could pick from the group. Maybe even make characters that are even more exotic like Black Panther, Wolverine, and Deadpool. Or go more exotic with other street levelers with energy projection, telekinesis, telepathy, etc...

This could play a lot like Mass Effect in the combat and mission style, you would be able to command your allies and the like, tell them what to attack with their own specialized styles and the like. Say you play as Captain America who gets bonuses to team effectiveness and has his own stats for strength, speed, healing, skill, etc... then you'd have Wolverine who would have higher strength, durability, and healing, and have his Adamantium claws and the like, but lack ranged attacks.

Then you'd have Hawkeye who would have low stats for healing and durability, but have high ranged attacks with high versatility. Then so on and so forth.

Other

If you don't think either of these would work, or you have a better idea, what would it be?

They should hire a company to make an Injustice style fighter. MVC4 would sell well too but it would be cool to see Marvel get its own 2d fighter that plays different than MVC.

They already had successful games in the late 90's and early 2000s.

Punisher had a third person shooter in 2005, that was pretty good. The black ops thing sounds like Marvel ultimate Alliance, maybe with a bit more depth, as that was a 3d beat um up with rpg elements, but it was still great

But nice ideas ^-^

@blade_r

They had a fighter called Rise of the Imperfects, not on Injustice lvls

All they need to do is just make games again, cause they haven't in a good bit

When they make a really good 3rd person Spider-Man game with an actual story and some RPG elements they will sell a lot of copies.

Make a Daredevil game...for once. Make it an openworld game. I want it to not be based on movies or shows.

@zaied: I have both. Definitely not polished. I meant more like a structured story rather than open world. Would also play more like Prototype and less like crap, lol. Maybe you're right though.

A new Marvel-only fighting game is probably where it's at financially. The battle forums are infinitely more popular than the RPG forums here. Make a Maevel game Soul Calibur/Injustice style and you'd probably have a big hit. MVC is okay but Capcom holds back the franchise significantly at this point. Those slots should go to different versions of characters (World Breaker Hulk, World War Hulk, Death Seed Sentry, Lord Mar-Vell) and to more obscure characters who wouldn't make MVC due to roster limitations, like Magik, Nate Grey, Crystal, Medusa, the Gorgon, Gladiator, Vulcan, and more.

They could follow Injustice example to get on the map IMO.

Pretty much this.

However, a Marvel fighter similar to Injustice would be nice.

Daredevil he has good stories you could base it on. He's a good fighter, decent enough rogue list. Just get a team that are dedicated and have the passion to make a good Daredevil game.

A Marvel fighting game made by Capcom, their own injustice.

Don’t use a character that is too powerful, linear story (like god of war/prince of persia), creative and compelling story, give its own twist to the characters and world, easy to learn difficult to master fluid gameplay. Don’t repeat the same thing the entire game, the Arkham games gave the player several things to do, explore, detective, predator, combat…

I would prefer an original story like the first one, that brings you to a lot of corners of the Marvel Universe over Civil War with evil nanites in the end(seriously if you have a computersystem take over earth at least make it Ultron). You could add more elaborate sidequests into the game and bring back the dialoge options for background information about the Marvel Universe and make more characters directly involved with the plot.

@stahlflamme: I agree the first one was better, I simply ment the game style. They could make it a lot better, more characters and skins more elaborate/indepth side quests. And they have to keep the trivia which was fun.

I quite liked the first Ultimate Alliance game. If a sequel were made, I'd prefer it to be more like MUA1 than MUA2. The second one was a step in the wrong direction imo, because it focused on graphics at the expense of the scale and variety that made the first one so fun, without doing much to improve the core mechanics. An improvement I'd like to see in a MUA3 would be greater fluidity, in combat, movement, and team play.

Speaking of team play, how about a Marvel team game where, instead of all the characters fitting essentially the same role, as in MUA, each hero has a particular specialty that opens up new possibilities for level progression?

RoleDescriptionExamples
SoldierVersatile generalistCaptain America, Cyclops, Blade, Punisher
ScoutStealthy intel-gathererBlack Panther, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Angel, Nightcrawler
SidekickPure melee fighterBeast, Wolverine, Daredevil, Elektra, Iron Fist
StrongmanAggressive obstacle-wreckerHulk, Thing, Colossus, Luke Cage
SuperPowerful "air support"Thor, Iron Man, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, Iceman, Ms. Marvel, Storm
SpecialistOdd "X-factor"Spider-man, Ant-man, Wasp, Mr. Fantastic, Doctor Strange

Example: The target is a warehouse occupied by numerous armed HYDRA goons, including snipers, armored troops, and robots. The Scout is the first to infiltrate, quietly neutralizing the sniper covering the team's advancing route and reporting on the locations of the enemy inside. The Soldier and Sidekick rendezvous with the Scout on the roof as the Strongman positions himself on the exterior side of the wall closest to the largest group of goons inside. It's go time: the Sidekick smashes through the skylight and begins to beat up the thugs as the Soldier covers him from a distance and the Scout takes care of threats on the upper catwalks. Before the largest group can recover from the initial shock, the wall behind them is brought down on top of them as the Strongman joins the Sidekick in wrapping up the fight inside. The thugs that escape their fists are blasted from the air by the Super. The team is victorious, having been supported all the while by whatever weird thing the Specialist does.

The trick here is to ensure that the roles complement each other, and that prudent team composition and coordination is rewarded. It's no good if every problem can be solved with Super saturation or something like that. Access to characters for a particular level should strike a balance between the player's freedom to choose from several valid approaches and limitations to keep things challenging. Examples:

  • Recruitment takes place during the story, as in MUA (expanding pool)
  • A mission takes place where a particular team member is necessary (locked character slot)
  • A two-man covert stealth mission to Latveria takes place (limited slots, selection for stealth)
  • A space mission (limited slots, selection for environmental suitability)
  • A solo mission (one slot, selection for self-sufficiency)
  • A character is suspected to be a double agent and grounded (character rendered unavailable)

The gameplay would be third person action adventure. Each character would start from the same basic movement system, but advanced movements and melee attacks would vary greatly, and the use of weapons even more. Ideally, each character would feel very different in platforming and combat, opening up a diverse range of strategies, and be fun to use.
