What direction do you see society moving towards?
i am saddened that despite having so much knowledge at their finger tips 24/7, most people are getting dumber. now i like p05n just as much as the next person, but search for something else people.
I see the future USA as a country where the people are completely dependent on the government to protect them and meet their needs. The government will have guns, we will not.
@i_dont_like_comics: Haha!! Lol thats great
Hipsters
That. Some people also think (fashion wise) we are moving back into the late 80's and 90's.
In the United States, the government is moving towards greater control of people "for their own good."
The people in the United States seem to be getting more and more tense as we are told that "the other side" is out to get you. People feel like something is wrong, but what is wrong and what to do is hazy. This will lead to a great restoration of kinship as we find uniting principles or great discord if we do not.
People are becoming more and more addicted to technology.
The United States will lose it's status as a superpower and the dollar will possibly collapse.
Assuming the economy doesn't collapse, technology will explode to even greater heights which has tremendous potential for good and ill.
The world will be even more ticked at us because we've screwed with much of the world's currency and internal policies.
Putin has some plan for expansion though I can't figure out what he has in mind. My best guess is a monopoly on the world's oil via a partnership with Middle Eastern dictatorships that will put a choke hold on Europe and give Russia enough influence to scoop up the Soviet Block.
Muslims are establishing a new Caliphate. I assume they will fail in taking all of the Middle East, but if they are able to even hold the areas they've already taken, they will be a nightmare.
And we, as a people, will make it if we will spend less time on Netflix and more time thinking and compassionately listening to one another.
@racob7: Yiiiiikes!!!! That sounds scary
The more freedom they sacrifice the easier their lives will become. Eventually each and every one of them will be completely dependent on the government to meet all their needs. The government will feed them, the government will clothe them, the government will put a roof over their heads, they will have little to no responsibility, they will be happy.
They will live like pets.

Step away from the Ayn Rand books
@lateralus: I have no idea who that is.
@ruggedmax: Towards World War 3.

Famous conservative philosopher. Philosophy towards government was pretty much identical to your initial post.
@wolverine08: Yes, I remember her now. I think I'll read Atlas Shrugged after I'm done with Life of Pi.
Race war. Pole shift & natural disasters. Cannibalism. The protective radiation & ozone layers around the planet get burned off by the sun. People move underground & get forced into slavery to build the new world for the elites.
But I'm a be long gone in my spaceship by then.

The funny thing is she died a hypocrite. She went destitute in her later years and she sure seemed to love Social Security and Medicare when she needed them.

That government help though!
@wolverine08: There's a difference between taking government help and being dependent on the government. Still, the irony is amusing.

Conservatives tend to bunch the two together though.
The exact same place it has being going since day one.
No place.
Just the illusion of going some place.
Hell if I know, how can I speak for the state of the world?
Bloody Aussie.
@wolverine08: Some do, yes.

@comicstooge: HE'S A MUSLIM TOO!
@comicstooge: HE'S A MUSLIM TOO!
Even if he was, what difference would it make?
Are a lot of Americans just that xenophobic?

It wouldn't really make a difference really, you just have the Christian fundamentalist movement that is critical of anything that doesn't relate to the purported Christian values America was founded on(And I say this as a believer of God) and the general aggression/suspicion of the Muslim faith and it's people in the aftermath of 9/11, which is a silly behavior when you think about it.

WE HAVE MORE GUNS THAN YOU THOUGH!
Most scientist believe that society will get overall much better with in the next fifty years..... They say even the worst places to live in the world now will be a much better place to live in the future than the best places to live now........
Crime is down here from 30 years ago.
Schools are teaching tougher material than when i was in school.
Womens status has gotten better in society.
Internet access here is cheap and readily available.
Our country relies less on oil now than ever before.
Wind farms have grown in number dramatically.
Solar energy farms too.
Gay rights have made leaps and bounds in progress here.
We had our first black president.
Minorities arent so minor anymore.
We help other countries almost every time they have a natural disaster.
Things arent perfect, but id say we're pretty good. Now if only we could get rid of the idea of celebs as role models, and teach our kids some respect.
Globally violence, poverty, and disease have all drastically decreased. So... good, I guess? It all depends on how you define society. The scene in Her where the main character is walking down the street and everyone around him was obsessed with their virtual assistants was pretty scary to me, but the truth is I don't think technology will make us any more alienated than we already were. At least, in the foreseeable future.
@force_echo: Its kinda like that now already lol. I'm loving the response volume to this post by the way.
