The Witcher 3. I have tried TWICE to get into the game. On paper it sounds like my dream game but it's just so disappointing. I can never get past more than two hours or less. The gameplay is boring, Geralt is boring and some of the voice acting is just...ugh. I really really want to like it but I just can't waste my time on it anymore.
@soldierofel: I had that with the first one. People say it the other games are better and I will get round to playing 2 and 3 at some point, but I found it so sleep inducingly boring...
As for other games, I really dislike Empire Total War and Battlefield 3.
Arkham Knight.
I didn't really like Dishonored. I didn't hate it, but the story and characters were crap and the leveling up skills were combat focused when the game penalized you for getting in combat.
I legit hate Final Fantasy XIII. A lot of people agree with me, but for some reason, some people love it. In fact I hate that game so much, I swore off JRPGS for years afterwards.
Take your pick of FPS' really, special mention may have to go out to the Turd Pentagon of Counter Strike, Gears of War, Halo, Battlefield and Call of Duty. Each member is able to get a large group of gamers to go into an epileptic fit if a new installment is on the horizon... despite whats mostly added for them is a few new maps for them to shoot their friends on.

All of them. I just don't like Sonic as a character, and I didn't even like the 2d classic sonic games.
@amendment50:Last bad mainline Sonic Game was Sonic and The Secret Rings, and that was back in 2007. Boom doesn't count because it's a spin-off.
On topic:
Probaly some more too.
@removekebab: Telltale games have QTE's, no way are they visual novels.
@cpt_nice: I almost finished the first Witcher. Got tired and felt it became boring. I already had the Witcher 2 and just couldn't get in the game for more than 15 minutes. Then one day, I was bored and gave it a try and just couldn't stop playing. Same thing happened with the Witcher 3. Really great games. The Witcher 1 really was boring. Give them a try.
CS: GO.
Half Life 2 and the episodes
Why do you HATE those magnificent games?
@removekebab: @killermovies: Huh, nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks Telltale stuff should barely qualify as "games". Although I like their pre-Walking Dead stuff.
The Dark Souls series. Wasn't bad at em, just got bored. I didn't feel all that enticed by the story and characters..I hear you really have to dig to discover such things but if I wanted to do that then I'd just stick to Destiny

I can understand that, Dark Souls is not the game for you if you want a lot of story and characterization. All that stuff is hidden within item descriptions and cryptic clues.

You shouldn't expect that from any game, that's not what video games are about. If that's what you're looking for, watch a movie or read a book.

That is absolute BS

It's people like you that are destroying the industry. Story in a game is the same as a story in porn, it's supposed to be there but it has little relevancy to the quality of the overral product; it's a travesty that games like The Last of Us get so many awards despite having generic gameplay and no great design choices to make up for it.
TL;DR: games aren't movies you filthy normie.

First off, @sc, homophobic comments in my thread.
Secondly, I don't know if you realise, but the juxtaposition of substance and style is present in every medium. In every medium/form of art from movies over books to graphics novels and even stuff like sculptures and paintings, you have examples which are lacking in looks or style but tell a story, and you have examples of things which are mindless/ l'art pour l'art.
That is why we have movies such as Drive and 300 but also Citizen Kane and City of Men. Likewise we have Doom and Call of Duty and we have Dear Esther and the Stanley Parable.
If there is anything wrong with videogames it is rabid, uneducated fanboyism by whiny children such as yourself, who sneer at anything that does not fall in their rigid definition of what a game is.
If you are only into shooting people or driving cars, that is totally cool. More power to you. But don't take such a tone, especially when it makes no sense.
@cpt_nice: Was I homophobic because of the F word? Alright then, if that detracts from my argument then I shall see it removed.
You're talking about aesthetic, wich I agree can be very important to a game. However, it's still not as important as the gameplay.
Tell what kind of meaningful mechanic does the Stanley Parable have? It's a walking simulator and nothing else. It barely qualifies as a "game". That shit just bores me to death, present it to me as an interactive feature and I might like it for what it is.

A. That's not what fanboy means
B. I did not say that things such as TLoU are not games, I'm just saying they're bad games. Wich they are.
Was I homophobic because of the F word?
Yes
You're talking about aesthetic, wich I agree can be very important to a game. However, it's still not as important as the gameplay.
Why? Because you play them? By that logic every movie should aim to be the most spectacularly looking movie possible, because you watch them. But we also praise sober looking movies such as Citizen Kane what for they accomplish in the story department. Likewise, a game such as Flower does not aim to tell an intricate story OR to deliver mindboggling gameplay. Instead it goes for a certain style and look. Mostly focussing on a specific area is and should not be limited to a certain medium. That not only kills creativity, it literally serves no purpose.
Tell what kind of meaningful mechanic does the Stanley Parable have?
A game does not need a certain mechanic.
It's a walking simulator and nothing else.
So?
It barely qualifies as a "game".
Debatable. You get the choice of options to choose your own path. You work towards one of multiple endings. You can make choices. THis can all be considered gameplay.
In tag all you do is around run after people to tap them. There is no pre-defined ending, there is no gameplay outside of walking/running and touching people, there are no special mechanics. Yet everyone refers to tag as a game.
that shit just bores me to death
That is all fine and dandy, if games like the SP are not your thing, then don't play them. But don't get on your high horse from the land of True Gaming and try to act all hardcore gamer. That shit is tiresome.
present it to me as an interactive feature and I might like it for what it is.
It is an interactive feature. A book is (usually) not interactive. A film is (usually) not interactive. A game is by definition interactive, even if it's singleplayer and even if it is a so called "walking simulator". Books and films don't react to your input and you have no control over them. You have input in pretty much every game. If you are interested in the difference, I advice you to watch the first episode of Crash Course on Gaming, they define pretty well where one draws the line.
That's what fanboy means
We are in agreement then.
I did not say that things such as TLoU are not games, I'm just saying they're bad games. Wich they are.
Again, your opinion on them being good and bad. Could care less about that.
