Talk about your favorite Indie games here.
Personally I'm really enjoying lots of Freeware game right now, with Vidiot Game being one of the best random things I've ever played.
The Indie Game Thread
@ZllikLaerecEhe:
Need to install Breath of Death still after I get through my stockpile of games that I haven't got time for.
Minecraft easily.

As far as I know it doesn't have any support from a financial game company, although Mojang itself may have enough money to consider itself a real company now.
When I think indie I more think from the "little known" perspective rather than the financial backing part. But that's just me.@Decoy Elite said:

Slender is an indie game and it is still wildly popular.
Like I said, I look at it differently than most people I guess.
@Decoy Elite: I can respect that.

Braid, Limbo and Super Meat Boy are all better games than Minecraft.
However that isn't the point of the thread as if you'd read the title this is a discussion of what our 'favourite' indie games are, not the best ones.
@ZllikLaerecEhe:
I frickin' love classic RPGs, especially JRPGs which Cthulu saves the World is designed with in mind.
Chrono Trigger, FFIII and FFIV are three of my favourite games so I can see why I love CSTW.

Minecraft is easily my favorite Indie game is what I meant. And that's kind of my opinion, so Braid, Limbo, and Super Meat Boy are not #1 for me.

anyone played to the moon
Actually made a thread of it last year on here when it first came out. True story.
Edit: Here it is if you wanna read it http://www.comicvine.com/forums/off-topic/5/to-the-moon/640730/?page=last
@Pwok21: No problem. Everyone does it now and then.
I have a huge problem with most indie game companies and supporters. Just like in every other entertainment industry, they believe that because they are indie that they are somehow better.
Indie games such as Braid, Super Meat Boy and Limbo are nothing special in terms of mechanics. Jumping up and down over obstacles all while trying to avoid attacks from enemies and maybe a few puzzles here and there is nothing new. I just watched Indie Game: The Movie and I had to shut it off half way through because these developers kept insulting bigger games like COD, Mass Effect and Halo all while calling their stuff art. The word "indie" has lost it's meaning.
Indie just means independent people. It doesn't mean obscure or unknown. It just means that a group of people got together and made something on their own free time without the backing or funding of a larger corporation. Minecraft is an indie game as is Slender.
With that said my favorite indie games are Journey (PSN fasting selling game of all time, still indie), Limbo (sold a crap load, still indie) and Aether (not very popular, also indie)
I'm looking forward to Mercenary Kings. It's done by the same guys who worked on the Scott Pilgrim game.
I played the demo, nearly got it but I decided to get Meat Boy instead.Bastion is fantastic.

Both of those games are extremely good. Super Meat Boy's controls are smooth as butter..
And technically a indie game, The Walking Dead is one of the best written games I've played.
I usually check out the demos for the Xbox Live Indie Games, they have a few cheap gems like Super Wagon Adventure.@Decoy Elite said:

@FalconPuuunch: pretty sure Journey was backed by Sony, so it really can't be count as an indie game.
On top of my head some of the best indie games I have ever playedBastion is fantastic, Faster Than Light is absolutely addicting,
Machinarium one of the funnest and most beautiful games I have ever played (same goes for any other game Amanita Design made)

Journey was made by Thatgamecompany which is an American independent game developer. They were hired by Sony obviously, but they are secured by independent funding. It is an indie game.
@FalconPuuunch: That's nice to know.
Journey was a very very fine game. Probably the most emotional game I have ever played.
CastleMiner Z is surprisingly not as bad as I thought it would be. It's cool for only one buck (80 Microsoft points).

Eh, with Minecraft already on Xbox Live Arcade it seems a bit pointless. No reason to get it when a superior version exist for a just a bit more.

Minecraft is actually an Arcade game on Xbox Live, and its like 1200 Microsoft points.

I know I have it and why it costs more it's clearly a lot better. And it has free updates for more content.

any good scary ones ?
Slender : The Arrival looks promising, and Amnesia : The Dark Descent (as well as Penumbra) has its fair share of chills and scares.
@Decoy Elite: True, but CastleMiner Z is only 80 Microsoft points, while Minecraft is 1200. Add another 80 Microsoft points to CastleMinerZ to unlock Creative and other modes it is only 160. Pretty cheap for a decent game.
Minecraft is superior in every way (minus weapons), but its fairly expensive for an Arcade game, so I could understand people using CastleMinerZ as an alternative if they're running low on points.
@YourNeighborhoodComicGeek: Eh, true about the price thing, but I still think if you're gonna get Minecraft you might as well just get Minecraft.
@Fuchsia_Nightingale: Penumbra is really underrated. I wish it'd be more popular. Also have you played Monster House (Half-Life 2 Mod)? I think PewDiePie had a gameplay of it.
@Decoy Elite: Yeah, but for people who don't have enough points and aren't getting more points any time soon, its a nice substitute.
@YourNeighborhoodComicGeek: Yeah but they could be getting Super Amazing Wagon Adventure which isn't an inferior rip off of another game. :P
@Decoy Elite: Haha, but the point of CastleMiner Z is to be a cheaper version of Minecraft. Super Amazing Wagon Adventure isn't anything like Minecraft (other than intentional outdated, but unique graphics).
@Fuchsia_Nightingale: Yeah I meant Nightmare House 2. It looks exceptional for just a game mod. Arma II's Zombie mod isn't exactly horror, more so survival, but its an interesting game/mod as well.
@Decoy Elite: While that may be true, it won't apply to people specifically looking for a cheaper version of Minecraft (probably 99% of CastleMiner Z players).
@Fuchsia_Nightingale: Arma II's Zombie Mod looks really good. I might buy the game just for the mod. Many people do that.
Its called DayZ.
