So I know pretty much the basics of Robin, in that he was a pretty fracking amazing archer.

But aside from that I don't know much, so any dabblers of Robin Hood lore around to fill me in?

Was his archery superhuman?

He never missed right?

Enlighten me on the great Robin Hood folks.

@wolfrazer: Oh so you mean to ask if the original fictional character has good archery feat?

Nothing concrete that I remember. The fact that he won an archery contest with ease is part of the original lore IIRC.

@cpt_nice: Yeah, guess I just been sorta struck with the curiosity bug involving Robin Hood today. I know the archery contest bit, as that has been shown in numerous media and what not or parodied. Just wanting to know if there's anything else, as stories and the like seem to imply his archery was on a whole other level, how he never missed a shot, etc.

@wolfrazer: Splitting an arrow from 100 paces is pretty damn good, and better than anything else i've heard. But i also recall a story of him skewering an apple off someones head (.....or out of their hand maybe??? it was one of the two LOL)

@vashtanerada88: Well given how small an arrow is and 100 paces being 400 feet away and he split the arrow with another arrow, that is pretty impressive.

When I clicked on; I thought you were on about the Russell Crowe film - which was/is godawful

In terms of folklore, Robin Hood is pretty much the basis for all fictional archers - Green arrow being the obvious one

@vashtanerada88: The apple feat is a guy called Willhelm Tell if memory serves.

@soaring: Nah. :P the OG Robin.

But you know anything? I mean I get that he was the basis for guys like GA, Hawkeye and so on. But I just really wanna know what the folklore says about his archery skill.

There's no reason to think he didn't, there are a number of people known to have existed that fit the descriptions of Robin Hood perfectly or maybe the antics of said people simply inspired the creation of a fictional character.

@killerforhire: That is what I meant though. That the legend came forth from the deeds of several people and that there is not A Robin Hood. Would not be the first time this happened in history.

@wolfrazer: He is a fictionnal characters of tales. Historians are not sure on his origins.

You must then find and read the early tales and chants to know how he really was.

wikipedia can help you with that:

  • You know like him taking out armies with his arrows..Shooting an Arrow miles and hitting a movie target.
  • But i,m fairly certain alot of that is an exaggeration..

There were probably PLENTY of real Robin Hoods. No one will give you up if everyone liked you, and the best way to get people in poor areas to like you is by throwing cash at them.
