Overwatch Thread

With all the Overwatch threads on the Battle forums,it surprised me there wasn't an actual thread for the game itself. So, why not make one? Talk game-play, tricks, maybe organize into a party, ect...

So, what are your thoughts on the game so far? Competitive mode released recently, and I think this video speaks for most of us concerning it:

Haven't played comp yet. Had to send my PC away for repairs a couple weeks ago and it hasn't come back yet. I'm gonna have to play the scrub who's behind on the meta when I come back.

As someone who likes to play a lot of support, competative took a way a portion of the fun for me - as a support is typically only as good as her team. Too often I am forced to switch even though we need a sup, just so that I could ensure our win. Speaking of supports, whats everyones thoughts on Ana? I think she looks extremely fun, but also very hard to play.

I don't play Overwatch, but I'm familiar with some of the characters.

Zarya is very attractive.

@bruxae: as of now I'm playing on console and I'm terrible at snipung in this game. Ana looks like a lot of fun but I doubt I'll be effective

Even as a good player it's hard to carry your own weight damage wise with someone like Widowmaker or Hanzo, it's more of a zoning tool, let's hope Ana has a lot of emphasis on that. As her heal doesn't seem very bursty either she really needs something to make her a solid pick. She does kinda look like a weaker version of Zenyatta but with CC. I won't judge her though before trying her, I think shes going to be very fun, I just expect to see a lot of people picking her and feeding all game because they don't know how to play to her strengths yet.

@bruxae: I can't wait to play Ana, she looks very versatile. I want that Shrike skin as well, looks great!

And I feel ya on support roles in competitive, the team always asks for someone to play healer yet they seemingly never want to safeguard them i:

@queen_marceline: My favorite part is hiding behind Reinhart's shield thinking "Hey, he's actually not a ba-- Oh, he just charged! *dies*". And of course he instantly dies as well because I was the only thing keeping him and several others alive.

LOL, that happens way more than it should. What rank are you competitive?

Some people don't understand that me healing them as Mercy, doesn't make them invincible.

Not as high as I want to be. I got a pretty bad placement and have only played a handful of games past that since I got burned out, so haven't really tried to climb yet. I think I left my skill rating at about 60. >_> On PC of course.

It's pretty pathethic how much worse my team mates are than before my placement matches, I think my MMR was quite high so I got kinda turned off when I got such a low placement and couldn't really play my favorite role anymore. So I am taking a bit of a hiatus playing other games, will def get back in time for Ana though.

@bruxae: Lol, I'm only at 62 atm(was at 65). I actually went down to 55, you know how solo search can be I'm sure, climbed back to 65 and then went down to 62. 60's aren't that bad imo, 40s-50 is when you should be saddened by your rank lol. I play PS4 :p

I was experiencing that a few days ago during competitive matches. The game can't tell the difference between disconnecting from the game and quitting before the end of a match. I went down two rankings after being disconnected.

I have 55 hours on the game and it has turned lackluster for me.

Which is why I don't play it anymore

Genji is so much fun to play as, his mobility and deflect give a real sense of skill, and I think one of my favorite things about the game so far, is deflecting certain ultimates back at players.

I made an impulse buy last week and got a new television, PS4 and Overwatch (some other stuff too) but yeah, Overwatch is pretty addicting and fun. Really like the stylization and characters. Also plays so smoothly and tight. My main regret is wishing I was better with the characters looks/personalities I like (Widowmaker, mainly) so many good characters, but if my team is losing, I get into a habit of going back to characters I am best at, which won't really help me learn to be better with other characters but eh…

@queen_marceline: The main reason is the difference between console and pc. Some buffs and some nerfs don't need to be on console but need to be on computer. For example, the Widowmaker nerf wasn't needed on console because it is a lot harder to aim on console than it is on pc and with the buff to D.VA, widowmaker is basically no longer in the meta on console.

Another reason is the lack of maps and game types. It gets pretty bland. Plus, the limited number of maps makes it even worse.

Sure, there are 22-23 characters on Overwatch, but once you've played all of them, they get boring unless you become competitive. It lacks the staying power a mobaesque game should have. It might not be that way once they get more heroes, but as of right now, I could play Smite for free when it has up to 70+ characters and still growing and get more gameplay out of that than I ever could Overwatch.

Genji took some getting used to. But, I got so accustomed to using him that I became very lackluster with characters I was once good with (Pharah, Soldier 76, Hanzo, Widowmaker). So, other than Genji, I play with Reaper, D. Va, and Zenyatta.

Mei needs some sort of buff. She's kind of a useless hero.

@beaconofstrength: Really? She annoys the shit outta me with her icewall, self-heal and her ability to freeze characters that rely on their mobility. Why do you find her useless, though?
