Is intelligence a gift?

I shall quote one Miguel Indurain;

I inherited that calm from my father, who was a farmer. You sow, you wait for good or bad weather, you harvest, but working is something you always need to do.

I often ponder whether I inherited my intellect from my parents, or if it is simply a gift bestowed on me from heaven. But perhaps there is another origin for my mental superiority to the average human being; I worked hard and studied for long to acquire a vast amount of knowledge. I sowed and the fruit of my labours comes in the form of my achievements like winning many debates on here. I must disagree with the last part of this quote however, I couldn't possibly work any more as I have reached the pinnacle of my ability.

How say you the rest of Comic Vine? Is intelligence a gift, merely random luck due to genes or do you have to work hard to acquire a more let's say; refined intellect?

Difference between intellect/intelligence and being knowledgeable. You can't inherit knowledge but you can inherit certain reasoning or problem solving skills. It is something you are both with, some children are naturally better at building Legos or figuring out simple problems than others. A refined intellect comes with being knowledgeable and experience.

Sorry troll seems to be the wrong word. I really don't like using the word troll per se, but I will say your post(s) come off as very egostistical, which has led me to come to the conclusion that you are sad on the inside, alone, and want to feel the slightest bit of superiority on comicvine when it doesn't seem to work out in the real world.

Intellect is not always a gift.

Sometimes, but not often, you can be intelligent enough to realize how screwed everything is, how wrong people's decisions are based on ignorance, how bigoted, racist, hate filled, prejudiced, and ready to be offended the world has become, and you know also exactly how little one person who has no power can matter.

Extreme intellect without ambition, compassion, and altruism is a burden.

Intellect is not always a gift.

Intelligence can be born in someone or someone can work really hard for it. Although people may be born smart they can always learn more knowledge. People who are "dumb" don't often work as hard as people who are intelligent. Intelligence can be trained just like training in sports. Almost any human being with a will can achieve anything in a human's physical limit, like being a genius or an athlete.

I consider it as a gift.
