Biblical or just a natural disaster? No to the former because there's no indication of it, I wouldn't know about the latter though.

I hope not. My tiny nation's surrounded on three sides by water. Not to mention I'm not a very good swimmer.

Well a Biblical one isn't likely since if you're religious you'd know God said he wouldn't do it again so unless the word of God is as cheap as a politician's its not gonna happen. Tho I'm not a religious person and those global ice caps are melting, Thank God I'm a few thousand miles in land because its highly doubtful the Ocean would rise enough to get past Ohio.

The great flood doesn't just exist in the Bible it exists in South American myth, ancient Chinese and European folklore

Many cultures have some form of flood myth as part of their religious beliefs, but some of the most ancient of these are those of Mesopotamia and other earlyMiddle Eastern civilizations, as well as certain Asian groups. It is possible thatthese myths have been passed down from their oldest form to the cultures of othergroups such as those of the Chinese Miao. It could also be that the flood myths ofeach culture are actually based on a real catastrophic event that occurred at somepoint far in the past history of the world and each culture has passed the tale of thisflood incident down through the generations. One of the oldest recorded flood myths that have been discovered so farcomes from the Babylonian culture, is included within the Gilgamesh story and theSeven Tablets, and was written sometime around 2800 B.C.E. According to thetablets that have been found, there are at least two differing tales, both of whichdescribe a similar deluge. In one legend, carved into a clay tablet that was found atthe Library of Nebo in Nineveh and was inscribed around 2800-2700 B.C.E

Deep in the waters of Cabo de San Antonio, off Cuba's coast, researchers are exploring unusual formations of smooth blocks, crests, and geometric shapes. The Canadian exploration company that discovered the formations, Advanced Digital Communications, has suggested that they could be the buildings and monuments of an early, unknown American civilization.

Many scientists are skeptical of any theory that might tempt people to draw a parallel with the fabled lost city of Atlantis. Geologist Manuel Iturralde, however, has stressed the need for an open mind while investigations of the site continue.

It is supposed that Atlantis was an island. This is partly correct, partly not: The absolute center actually was an island with channels/rivers on all sides. The whole area was not an island. From the context it is clear that the word island is used in two different meanings: To describe the island in the middle of the capital and the country Atlantis itself. Swiss archaeologist EberhardZangger found out, that the Egypt Hieroglyph means both: Island and foreign country.

..Long before the discovery of the scablands, geologists dismissed the role of catastrophic floods in interpreting European geology. By the end of the 19th century such ideas not only were out of fashion but were geological heresy. When J Harlen Bretz uncovered evidence of giant floods in eastern Washington in the 1920s, it took most of the 20th century for other geologists to believe him. Geologists had so thoroughly vilified the concept of great floods that they could not believe it when somebody actually found evidence of one

Though it took nearly a century for geologists to recognize the deep scores in the earth, displaced boulders, and deep ripple marks on the prairies as signs of what is today called the Missoula Flood, apparently many tribes local to the Pacific Northwest had very similar stories about floods. Writes Montgomery:There is now compelling evidence for many gigantic ancient floods where glacial ice dams failed time and again: At the end of the last glaciation, some 10,000 years ago, giant ice-dammed lakes in Eurasia and North America repeatedly produced huge floods. In Siberia, rivers spilled over drainage divides and changed their courses. England's fate as an island was sealed by erosion from glacial floods that carved the English Channel. These were not global deluges as described in the Genesis story of Noah, but were more focused catastrophic floods taking place throughout the world. They likely inspired stories like Noah's in many cultures, passed down through generations.

The Yonaguni-jima Kaitei Chikei, literally translated as “Yonaguni Island Submarine Topography,” is an underwater mystery off the coast of the Ryukyu Islands, Japan.

The massive underwater rock formation is speculated to have existed for more than 10,000 years, but whether the formation is completely man-made, entirely natural, or merely altered by human hands is still debated.

The monument was first discovered in 1986 by a diver searching for a good spot to observe hammer head sharks. After its discovery, Masaaki Kimura, a marine geologist at the University of the Ryukyu, explored the monument for nearly two decades. Kimura remains convinced that the site was carved thousands of years ago, when the land mass was above water.

The floods of Glacial Lake Missoula left lasting scars on the landscape. The floods had both erosional and depositional features.

When Lake Missoula was filled, waves along the shore eroded away at the surrounding mountains. Paleoshorelines are carved out of the hillside just outside of Missoula, Montana. The highest shorelines are found at 4200 feet elevation, which would drown the city of Missoula underneath approximately 2000 feet of water.

Plato described for us a great civilization in possession of technology and a source of energy that is beyond anything that existed in his time, or in our own. The Atlanteans had harnessed this power and used it to transform themselves and the world around them. They had become masters of their environment, creating great cities, building devices in which they could travel far beyond their homeland. This technology was the science of the Vril, and it was given to them by the Gods.

The original language spoken by the Atlanteans was the mother tongue of all Indo-European languages, and was intimately linked to the Vril. They used language as an instrument to assist them in agriculture, by causing plants to grow, tame wild animals, bring about medical manifestations by healing the sick, as well unleashing terrible forces of destruction. Their mental and spiritual abilities were far beyond those in which we possess today, and made them seem like Gods to those humans that existed in the world at the time. By mastering the power of the Vril, they had advanced their evolutionary development, altering their DNA, and transformed themselves into semi-divine God-men. In their travels, they assisted other humans in establishing civilizations, instructing them in law and religion, and bestowing on them, their science and techniques in tool-crafting, architecture and agriculture. Other humans venerated them as Gods, or as a race of God-men who they looked to for advice and guidance, and unquestioningly obeyed their commandments.

@charliejade: Atlantis never actually existed, it was a fictional place made up by Plato. The only reason the myth still stands is because some idiot didn't know what the word Hypothetical meant when it was stated in the very first sentence ever written about Atlantis.

PASADENA, Calif. - For several days this month, Greenland's surface ice cover melted over a larger area than at any time in more than 30 years of satellite observations. Nearly the entire ice cover of Greenland, from its thin, low-lying coastal edges to its 2-mile-thick (3.2-kilometer) center, experienced some degree of melting at its surface, according to measurements from three independent satellites analyzed by NASA and university scientists.

On average in the summer, about half of the surface of Greenland's ice sheet naturally melts. At high elevations, most of that melt water quickly refreezes in place. Near the coast, some of the melt water is retained by the ice sheet, and the rest is lost to the ocean. But this year the extent of ice melting at or near the surface jumped dramatically. According to satellite data, an estimated 97 percent of the ice sheet surface thawed at some point in mid-July.

Researchers have not yet determined whether this extensive melt event will affect the overall volume of ice loss this summer and contribute to sea level rise.

"The Greenland ice sheet is a vast area with a varied history of change. This event, combined with other natural but uncommon phenomena, such as the large calving event last week on Petermann Glacier, are part of a complex story," said Tom Wagner, NASA's cryosphere program manager in Washington. "Satellite observations are helping us understand how events like these may relate to one another as well as to the broader climate system."

Son Nghiem of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. was analyzing radar data from the Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) Oceansat-2 satellite last week when he noticed that most of Greenland appeared to have undergone surface melting on July 12. Nghiem said, "This was so extraordinary that at first I questioned the result: was this real or was it due to a data error?"

Nghiem consulted with Dorothy Hall at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. Hall studies the surface temperature of Greenland using the Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites. She confirmed that MODIS showed unusually high temperatures and that melt was extensive over the ice sheet surface.

Thomas Mote, a climatologist at the University of Georgia, Athens; and Marco Tedesco of City University of New York also confirmed the melt seen by Oceansat-2 and MODIS with passive-microwave satellite data from the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder on a U.S. Air Force meteorological satellite.

The melting spread quickly. Melt maps derived from the three satellites showed that on July 8, about 40 percent of the ice sheet's surface had melted. By July 12, 97 percent had melted.

This extreme melt event coincided with an unusually strong ridge of warm air, or a heat dome, over Greenland. The ridge was one of a series that has dominated Greenland's weather since the end of May. "Each successive ridge has been stronger than the previous one," said Mote. This latest heat dome started to move over Greenland on July 8, and then parked itself over the ice sheet about three days later. By July 16, it had begun to dissipate.

Even the area around Summit Station in central Greenland, which at 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) above sea level is near the highest point of the ice sheet, showed signs of melting. Such pronounced melting at Summit and across the ice sheet has not occurred since 1889, according to ice cores analyzed by Kaitlin Keegan at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather station at Summit confirmed air temperatures hovered above or within a degree of freezing for several hours July 11 to 12.

"Ice cores from Summit show that melting events of this type occur about once every 150 years on average. With the last one happening in 1889, this event is right on time," said Lora Koenig, a Goddard glaciologist and a member of the research team analyzing the satellite data. "But if we continue to observe melting events like this in upcoming years, it will be worrisome."

Nghiem's finding while analyzing Oceansat-2 data was the kind of benefit that NASA and ISRO had hoped to stimulate when they signed an agreement in March 2012 to cooperate on Oceansat-2 by sharing data.

Ice Cores from Greenland Unlock Ancient Climate SecretPaleoclimatologist James White finds stark warnings about the potential for rapid climate change hidden in ancient ice.

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=ice-cores-from-greenland-unlock-ancient-climate-secret

Warming trends that forced widespread ice melting and monumental sea-level rise weren't a millennium-long process. It was decadal.

.

Greenland—the world’s largest island—is also home to one of the world’s largest ice sheets (after Antarctica). If Greenland’s two-mile-thick ice sheet melts completely, it would ultimately raise global sea level by 23 feet (7 meters), drowning significant portions of coastal regions under water. It would also add large quantities of fresh water to the ocean, with the potential to change ocean circulation patterns that could, in turn, affect rainfall patterns, fisheries, and climate.http://polardiscovery.whoi.edu/expedition4/

this always amused me... because it makes the rainbow a moot point....

"Why does God give a promise not to flood the world again and use the Rainbow as a symbol when he knows next time he will destroy/flood the world with fire" it seems pointless to even have the promise made because essentially God will do the world just as bad with the Fire as he did with the Water.

The Noah's Ark story is so popular with young children that it can easily be used for more than one lesson. I've prepared two Noah's Ark teacher's guides. Depending on which arts and crafts you choose, each of the guides I've prepared can be extended over two weeks giving you a full month of Noah's Ark.When instructing young children, repetition is a positive thing. Everything is so new at this age that it is helpful to repeat important messages multiple times. This second part of the Noah's Ark lesson focuses on God's covenant with man.The message: God made a promise -- and He never breaks them. The message of God as our loving Creator is reinforced in the Noah story. When the flood ended, God formed a rainbow in the sky

http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mcekkdyzfX1qi3lpp.gif

and made a promise never to send such a flood again.

Total number of 3 068 people who went missing in floods in India's northern state Uttarakhand last month will be be presumed dead if not found by 15 July, the state's chief minister said on Thursday.

So who sent these floods in 2013? Was it Aranyani? Yam? Vishnu? Shiva? Mohammed? Jehovah? the Christian devil? some deity from China or Japan?

The people who are claiming God is going to cause another flood know your source material. God says he will destroy the Earth with Fire not water.

Scientifically speaking? I have no reason to believe that there is going to be a flood of biblical proportions (no matter what the Global Warming fear mongers spread)

But it's like what a Villain would do...

Villain : Hey I promise I won't destroy your town again with a Flood so I will give you this Rainbow as a Symbol of that... but next time I am going to come back and destroy your town with Fire.

The Rainbow's purpose is essentially rendered useless... because it's not symbolic of a meaningful promise if God is going to come back and destroy the world with something else. Whether it's destruction by Fire or destruction by Water... it's still destruction.
