Disney is going to be making a live action version of the Lion King( Dumb Idea or Brilliant Idea)?
- I,m not sure how i feel about Disney decision to remake the Lion King in live action.
- On one hand when you consider the great success Disney has had with live action remake of their animated classics(Cinderella,Maleficent,Jungle Book etc), this decision has every chance of working out.. Plus the Lion King is major money maker for Disney both in Broadway(1997-Present) and during its initial Box Office run making 968 million world wide in 1994.
- But on the other hand when you consider the fact that its the Lion King(Which is a really goofy movie) and that the film maybe shot entirely in Motion Capture Cgi technology(With no human characters), this could be an complete critical failure and an epic box office flop..Of cringe worthy proportions.
- Even though Dawn of the Planet of the Apes did work out well(And that's a similar concept) so who knows, it could turn out to be a good film.. And since it freaking Disney the odds of it being a success far outweigh the chances of it being a flop..lmao
- What do you guys think?
Well normally I would say moronic, but The Jungle Book and Maleficent were decent movies that stories translated well to live action. The lack of a human protagonist is the only thing that makes me really hesitate though.
@jumpstart55: for being a cringe bandwagon member you input is invalid
I think this could go either way, but I'm leaning toward a box office flop and getting harsh reviews from critics.
If it's just going to be a bunch of CGI then is it really "live action"??
Probably about as live action as Disney's Dinosaurs. I wouldn't think it would be but who knows? Maybe Timone will be a real meerkat with a voice dubed over it/
This was inevitable looking at what they've been doing and are planning. It makes senses, 90's babies are just about into or on the cusp of adulthood, so they're playing on that newfound nostalgia.
I'm quite hopeful because Favreau is doing it, and TJB, a similar project, was apparently amazing (still haven't seen it), and he's just a good director in general. Plus, Disney really don't mess around with their major brands, I don't think it'll be bad... or rather, I don't think it will lack mass appeal so I can't see it flopping unless they screw up badly, which I doubt is gonna happen.
I hope they do a Tarzan and Mulan adaptation soon. Why not?
I think it's a brilliant idea for them, but I personally wish they wouldn't. It will indubitably be successful, but Lion King is one of the best animated movies ever made. People will look for every excuse to hate it.
Disney has found a new cow to milk. Live action versions of their animation.
This sounds like absolute ass. There aren't humans in Lion King. What would be the point? It was one thing to do The Jungle Book or Cinderella. But why this? Milk milk milk these franchises Disney. Terrible.
No. Just no

This. It's basically just a remake, nothing else.
I have no attachment to The Lion King so I'm not triggered.
If they did something interesting like do it from Scar's POV and not just make him the hero like bullshit Maleficent I might be intrigued.
Although I doubt that it's actually going to be a bad movie, I'm willing to bet that it won't live up to the standards the original animated movie had.
No. Just no

Well... The Jungle Book turned out well. But then again I didn't love the animation, so I was indifferent to the live-action.
I'll reserve judgement.
@monsterstomp: I'd say the difference is The Jungle Book at least had human characters like Mowgli in it even if it was mostly CGI animals with voices. This Lion King will be entirely CGI animals with voices and might not be treated with the same emotional connection as the original.
@lvenger: I can't disagree there. However, moments where Mowgli was absent from the scene such as Shere Khan's story to the cubs about the Cuckoo bird, instils hope for me.

@cpt_nice: While it may not technically be live action..Cosndeirng all the CGi they will most likely use..You can bet that they will be working their asses off so it looks live action..They said their going by the Jungle Books example. And last time I checked the whole idea behind 2016s Jungle Book was a photorealistic looking reimagining of the classic tale..Call it what you want, but the main idea behind this reatake of the lion king will be most likely to look like a Live Action film with photorealistic CGI.
