@jaken7: The statement alone isn't ignorant. It's just that there seems to be two major groups of people when it comes to Maul. One group who think Maul is awesome cause he has a cool lightsaber and he's a badass and horns. Then there's the other group who think he's just completely simple, fan-service. Just some assassin who kills people. No depth, nothing.

I mean, there are others (like Nova) who either like or criticise Maul from a point-of-view that is informed, but they are in the vast minority.

People can like or dislike a character without having to read everything he's ever appeared in. I just don't know why you'd have a problem with someone liking Darth Maul, for whatever reason. Don't be one of those elitist snobs that's all "No, dude. You don't even know! You don't even know, bro! You call yourself a fan of Maul!? There's no way you can like what I like without being exposed to everything I've been exposed to."

Also, maybe he has read/watched/played everything that involves Maul, and that's just the reasoning he gave because he was too lazy to write a better answer, or that that's just what puts Maul above Dooku in his eyes. Who knows?

Darth Maul is cooler, and the original to sport the Double Bladed staff which made fans at the time go nuts! He looks cooler, has a more screwed up history, and carried well in his own comics/episodes of Clone Wars.

@gojira2014: ...uh no.

Exar Kun was the first to sport the double-bladed lightsaber, Lucas snagged that idea from the EU and incorparated it into the movies.

I'm positive he's only referencing the films, in which case, he's correct.

Darth Maul for sure. Cricket-legs aside he was totally awesome when he was initially revealed, he has a presence (not to mention a fantastic design) that Darth Tyranus lacks. Dooku always came off as "Christopher Lee playing sith" to me.

^ this :)

Plus Exar kun is non canon as of now anyway, or Legends canon, however its set up, not approve by DIsney.

@jaken7: If he was only talking about the film, why did he say Darth Maul was the FIRST to sport the double-bladed lightsaber, when he was the ONLY one to sport it in the film?

First =/= only.

Do a better job of describing your words next time.

@The_Deathstroker: I dislike Maul in the EU. He's totally uninteresting IMO. I don't really like Dooku in the movies but I find him more interesting in the EU than Maul.

@jaken7: Original is pratically another word for first when used in this context though.

As a grammar police, you should know that.

Not always, and I was really just pointing out that fact because you kept insisting he said "first," when he actually never did.

@jaken7: I edited my post to include *in this context* I'm on my mobile and this phone, is going in full "suck" mode - so I try to keep my post as short as possible. Grammatical errors will be present in my post much more often when I'm on it.

Regardless, the way he said it indicated that was was going off more then just the movies, he should have worded himself better.

...I have no idea why this discussion has even went over 2 post anyway, so whatever.

I got the exact opposite indication, which is why I pointed it out. He said:

@gojira2014 said:

That specifically refers to moviegoers. Later on he mentions the comics and TV show which further proves he was initially only referring to the movies, as that indicates separation of the different Star Wars mediums.

This is the weirdest Internet argument I've been in, and I love it for that.

@jaken7: ... As I've said before, the way he worded it originally seemed like he meant more then just the movies, and I also, didn't see the edit in his post because it originally said nothing about the seperate Canon classes, thus my assumption.

As I said before, he could have worded it a tad bit better, then what he did. Because orginal suggest they had more then just one in that context...which they only had one double-blade user in the movie and that was Maul.

Now it makes sense if he was talking about TCW because Savage uses a double-blade lightsaber, but even if Exar is non-canon with the main canon, Lucas still got the indea from Kun anyway and the EU was not non-canon at the time of Darth Maul's creation so...

Maul

I love his origin better. I'm also not crazy about former jedi becoming sith lords. When it comes to fallen Jedi I instantly compare them to Anakin and no one ever beats Vader.

I'm gonna go with Maul because Dooku looks like a lil b*tch. He was a horrible villain, but then again there's not much about Clone Wars that wasn't horrible.

Maul. I have never found Dooku a particularly appealing or engaging character.

Maul had an air of mystery behind him, he was the only good thing from the Phantom Menace. I found him engaging and interesting it was cool to see how he didn't really speak and he let his moves and battle prowess do all the talking it needed.

I wish we would have seen Maul as the villain of the prequels as opposed to Dooku, who again I just never really felt he was a well written or interesting character. But that is yet another what if in the barrel of what what ifs the SW prequels were better.

Not a big fan of his portrayal in the Clone Wars though, like Ventress he talks way too much and lost his edge in the show because of that.
