The Mark Waid/Alex Ross story

No Caption Provided

It has been the subject of very large amounts of praise, and while I doubt anyone would make a live-action movie about it any time soon, DC has been adapting a lot of storylines into animated features

Could it be done well?

who should write and direct?

Any voice-cast in mind?

oh yea! I feel all of DC animated movies been GREAT. Actually wish SCENE FOR SCENE those were their in theaters movies. I totally make friends/family with no interest in comics watch them and they fall in love with them. I think they would two part it like Dark Knight Returns.

Probably about where Magog exits the picture.

yea I think Magog exit is the best point for the movie to end. DKR part 1 ended with the first antagonist is out the picture same could work for Kingdom Come. the hero war and Superman/Captain Marvel should be the focus of part two.

This is the only time where I would actually want the DC animation teams to make a 3D film. But not 3D like "Beware the Batman" or anything, I'm talking full-blown epic cinematic glory 3D.

@betatesthighlander1: I think it can. With the right direction and executives allowing it. A man can dream.

I'm not sure. One of the biggest draws about the comic is the art, and I'm not sure how well that would transfer to animation. Also, with animation, the pacing is different. With me, there are some pages that I just gaze at, and others I barely give a second glance to (and this ties into the art). Getting the pacing to a point that would please most viewers would be difficult at best.

That's the only way I could see them getting anything close to Alex Ross' style without spending all that time painting every single frame out.

The hardest part would be living up to the art standard set by Ross in the original miniseries. It is considered one of the greatest comics of all time (THE greatest for me, personally) so as long as the script stays as close as possible to the comic, it would be successful on the story front.

Superman's voice would need to be done by an older dude or someone who could do an older voice. Since KC Supes is world-weary and emotionally worn-out, a voice like Solid Snake in MGS4 would be best. Same with Batman. Wonder Woman would have to be played by a middle-aged actress since she isn't young in that book either.

It has to be CGI. Zack Snyder or Steven Spielberg or James Cameron or Martin Scorsese. should be the director, I didn't like MoS but that was mostly due to the script and editing, Snyder is the master of adapting OGNs and he'd do justice to KC, I don't think I need to say anything about Spielberg or Cameron or Scorsese.

I think it's the only way it could be done. But I think Bruce Timm once said that they won't do it until they feel they can adapt the art well, if I find it I'll post the quote, can't remember when he said it...

I'm not good at casting, but I'd love to see Harrison Ford as Batman, Catherine Zeta-Jones or Angelina Jolie as WW, Jon Hamm as Superman, Carla Gugino would be good for Selina.

I want them to bring Infinite Crisis to the big screen. The idea of seeing the Antimoniter and all these universe collapsing gets me drooling. I'd love to see 3 Supermen meet. MoS Superman, Campy Christopher Reeve like Superman and Ultraman. I can imagine Ultraman trying to start some trouble with MoS Superman and Campy Superman slapping Ultraman on the head and treating him like a child telling him to behave, making him cooperate.

If Bruce Timm and Andrea Romano are involved, I think DC could definitely pull it off.

@stormultt: agreed personally since this is a Alex Ross drawn comic book it should have the cgi style similar to polar express and Beowulf to keep the realistic looks of the character

The art style would have to be drastically changed, and once you do that, what's the point?

@russellmania77: I don't think so. If anyone should voice Spectre, it should be James Earl Jones. He does have that God-like voice needed for the character.

I think there might be a way to pull it off in traditional cel animation. CG would just ruin it in my opinion. But definitely bring in Bruce Timm as Executive Producer and Supervising Director. Co-Directors: Sam Liu & Brandon Vietti. Screenplay by Mark Waid, Geoff Johns & David S. Goyer. Based on the Graphic Novel by Mark Waid & Alex Ross. Story Consultants: Richard Donner & Mark Waid. Artistic Consultant: Alex Ross. Music by Ron Jones. Original Themes Composed by John Williams & Danny Elfman. Superman Created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster. Batman Created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. Wonder Woman Created by William Moulton Marston. Supervising Producer: James Tucker. Casting/Voice Director: Andrea Romano. Based on the DC Comics Characters.

My Dream Cast:

  • Malcolm McDowell-Norman McCay
  • James Earl Jones-Spectre
  • Gerard Christopher-Superman/Clark Kent
  • Lucy Lawless-Wonder Woman/Diana
  • Kevin Conroy-Batman/Bruce Wayne
  • Kevin Spacey-Green Lantern/Alan Scott
  • Patrick Wilson-Red Robin/Dick Grayson
  • Geoff Stults-Shazam/William "Billy" Batson
  • Katee Sackhoff-Power Woman/Karen Starr
  • Will Friedle-Damian Wayne
  • Julie Newmar-Selina Kyle
  • John DeLancie-Edward Nigma/Riddler
  • Ron Perlman-Magog
  • Kari Wahlgreen-Nightstar/Mar'i Grayson

And Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor

@rdclip: Kevin Conroy has already proven he can voice a much older Bruce Wayne/Batman (Batman Beyond). For Wonder Woman, why not give the role back to Lynda Carter for this film? As for Superman, if only Christopher Reeve were still alive. However, Christopher MacDonald voiced an older version of him on Batman Beyond. Just trying not to give you all a headache thinking about those three especially.
