@bruxae: Yeah when I first read the question, I was thinking the same thing. But I think a situation would be if the person you loved was being tortured and in agonizing pain that just won't end. You can either see them in that pain for the rest of your life or you can just put them out of their misery. Idk, something like that.

1st scenario:

• (Not exactly hurting or killing) The ship you are in sunk and you barely saved yourself by securing a large floating material. You are extremely tired, then you saw your sister, mother, and wife (husband if female) struggling to keep themselves afloat
• They somehow saw you and ask for help but even before you act, you saw that they are not the only one's in that area. There are at least 30 people there struggling.
• The improvised floatation device you secure can only carry at least 7 people in your quick assessment.
• Will you still try to save them or watch them die?

I will think of other scenarios later.

2nd Scenario

You are held at Gun Point by a Sadistic Criminal Group, along with you, your wife (husband if female), your child, and brother. The criminal group have a history of playing with their hostages but honor their word.

They ask you to kill either your wife, child, or brother. If you can kill one of them the rest of your group go free. If you decide not to kill anybody, all of you're love one's dies including you, it also applies if you choose yourself.

What will you do?

Well, in my instance it would be husband and it would be a toss up between him and my brother but yeah, I guess I would get rid of my child's father. I can't guarantee he won't procreate with another woman in the future whereas my brother has a strong enough genetic bond with me and my child that I can rely on him.

1st Scenario:

Hmm... if I could save some people it would obviously be my mother, sister and (wife), I wouldn't save the 30 other strangers though, I wouldn't want to risk my life over 30 people I don't know..

If it was a really tight situation, and I only had like a 5% chance of saving 1 person, I'd probably go for my mother, and leave the rest, but if the situation was so bad, then i'd leave them all...

2nd Scenario:

I'd probably kill the wife, then child, then brother...

Wife? No problem, don't have one, but (hypothetically speaking) she would matter a lot less than a child/ and my brother.

Child? Probably, i'd hesitate for a second but i'd do it.

Brother? Hmm... if I really had to, I would, but I would kill the wife and child both before I was forced to kill my brother.

This is interesting. I don't see it. I think I'd try to fight in most situations. If I can save someone I love, I would. I'm stupid enough to. Not bravery, just stupidity.

Once an argument dissolved into wrestling when I was arguing with my brother. I'd hurt him, but I'd never go anywhere near killing him.
