The problem is people say they don't judge black people but they do subconsciously. People are more scared of a black person wearing a hoodie than a white person and it's just sad, due to the media (often right wing) feeding the stereotype, though to be fair so do many wannabe rappers.
Not to say it's initially African American's fault at all...but the "yo, yo, my n*gga" wannabe kids are really not helping anything.
I agree. It's a shame too, that peer pressure is a huge influence that is pushing the stereotypes and is something that should some how be addressed. I (a black man) went through a period where i was dating constantly unsuccessfully for nearly 4 yrs exclusively dating black women. several of which, complained about me being "not black enough" and even suggested that i go for white women. Long story short... my gf now is not black.. -_-
it's 2014 why is there such a thing as "acting black" non sense.. just be a damn person. Why does dressing a certain way and liking a certain music define your race?
You realize you're talking about a group of people who had to create a culture amidst having theirs destroyed right? Why do you think? I'm not dating a black girl either but I've been with a few that never gave me that "Not black enough" stuff. You gotta look hard.
Smh what does "looking hard" have to do with the color of your skin? Granted it was like 3 women that brought this up out of well over a dozen.. but those 3 instances seriously made me want to adopt a persona that i think really hurts us as a whole... It's fine and good that we would like to relate to one another and connect as a people and having a number of commonalities, but i can't see the rationale as to why being violent, lazy, and obnoxious fits into our "culture"
That's internal...regardless to what 3 out of a dozen have said it shouldn't have bothered you. I say that because I don't have any violent, lazy or obnoxious friends and all of my best friends with one exception are black. So I don't know where they or you got that from? I'm not sure but you must've known that you being a black person acting the way that you do is also "Acting black" because you're "Black".
