Who is your favourite character out of all the students in Uncanny X-Men?
Eva. I think out of the new mutants Bendis has debuted, she has the biggest potential as far as character growth and powers goes. I'm not really a huge fan of Triage. He kind of came across as a very meek character and unsure about everything, but then he got really perverted and it was just a total 180 on the character. Just kind of too much too fast. I'm sure given some time, I'll come to be fine with him. Then there is Benjamin and he doesn't do anything. His power is chameleon by proximity. So I just find him kind of useless. But then again, Bendis has created these new mutants with most of them having the not so helpful abilities. I mean look at Fabio from issue 1. And now Fabio I guess has been replaced by David Bond andhe controls cars...sooo yeah. I really don't have a problem with it at all, tbh. We don't need every mutant having energy blasts, claws, telepathy, or super strength and so on. I'm just more curious as to how this team is really going to move forward as far as effectiveness goes. They really only have 2 heavy hitters on the team. Cyclops, and he goes HAM every time he uses his blasts for the most part, and Magik. Emma is still her adamantium water pistol so to speak, given that she has her diamond form which is ridiculously to damage, but she doesn't have a high degree of super strength. And Magneto is very limited. The Stepford Cuckoos at least help balance things out. But as for the rest go, you have Angel and Tempus can't really do much aside from putting up time bubbles. It all just sounds like a big disjointed puzzle, but I'm having fun with the series and enjoying seeing how these guys are working together in the situation they are in.
What do you think of the new Adjectiveless?
I think it is really good so far. I'm enjoying what Wood is doing on the series and Coipel's art is as amazing as ever. And I do like the next few artists that are taking over. They won't be as good as Coipel, but I like Dodson and I forgot the other guy, but I'm ok with his art. I was hesitant about picking it up, but I am glad I did.
Which character is Bendis doing a good job at? Which is the worst?
I like his Cyclops. I like the direction he is taking him and he has done some pretty awesome interactions with him and some other characters, whether it be them tearing into him or showing their support. My favorite probably being Scott calling Beast out on what he did. His Emma I find to be his worst. I do think he has gotten better with her, but he still doesn't have a hold on her dialogue. I don't think it would kill him to give us a darling here and there. But I don't he's all bad with her. I'm glad he's putting her back in the teacher role since it's a pretty big part of Emma.
Favourite title that is out now?
The Legend of Luther Strode. But since it's done after the next issue, Venom or Scarlet Spider. I love these two books. Yost and Bunn are killing it on them and I am kinda mad they aren't being put out more often.
Do you plan on dropping any titles by September?
X-O Manowar or Harbinger. I've been kind of doing this thing between both titles where I've liked it then not liked it and while the books aren't bad, because they are actually some of the best books on the market, they just aren't my cup of tea at times. Most likely, though, I'll be dropping X-O Manowar. Some of my books are ending soon anyways too like Gambit, so I'll probably end up adding some other stuff to actually fill it.
What are your thoughts on what Bendis is doing for the 50th Anniversary of the X-Men (the whole future team he has going on)?
I'm not overly thrilled. I'm really liking both ANXM and UXM, but I don't trust Bendis on events and adding the fact Jason Aaron is also heading this thing, it just makes it worse. I've lost a lot of respect for Aaron when it comes to writing X-Men and I was a huge supporter of WATXM for awhile and I stuck with the book, after the Savage Land arc I just couldn't see myself picking the title back up when I thought it was looking up for the series, but we had robots looking to measure the students' genitalia and then Dog came in and told them that he had genitals for them right here and started attacking them. The title has just had just too many mini filler arcs followed by a single issue focusing on one character then back to a filler and so on. And I loved it originally. I enjoyed the comedy and step away from the gloom and doom that is traditionally the X-verse. And I grew to like characters pretty fast like Quire and Warbird. But now Warbird doesn't appear much and anytime she shows up, it is just to make a sex reference. And we have been getting characters like Eye-Boy and Shark Girl. Both are terrible ideas and aren't funny. The book has become a parody of itself and it's terrible. So I'm not really excited for this. I might just pass it up for the most part, but I'll probably end up delving into it a bit anyway since I'll be keeping up with ANXm and UXM which will crossover into it anyways. But given how I was extremely against the idea of Bendis getting a hold of the X verse, but he has surprised me. So maybe since Aaron has a direction now, which WATXM was good when it had some, and Bendis being better than I thought, I might like what I see on the tie ins and will delve into the main stuff. But I won't hold my breath.
What do you think of Avengers Arena?
I heard some bad things about it but I'm not one to completely shut something out because of what people say without experiencing it myself. So I read a couple of issues but I didn't like what I read. So I'm completely oblivious to what is going on right now. Idk if it is even still going on.
If you had the chance to tell Bendis what to do -- what would it be? (in terms of All New and Uncanny)?
Make Emma say darling, dammit. But seriously, I like what he is doing. But if I had to pick I would do one thing and say get Emma and Scott back together and make her stand out like she should. When she told the Avengers off, I was really surprised he actually did that because Emma isn't one to hold back on talking and she was playing shadow cheerleader for far too long and Bendis was the one to really change that. I think Gillen wrote a great Emma Frost, but she still played background character quite a few times. And what was worse is that she would get her time in the spot light and say what was on her mind, but that would be the end of it. It was just...idk...underwhelming at times. So while I said Bendis doesn't have her dialogue down, I do feel like he has her personality down like with the teaching and her ability to lay a verbal smackdown. We just need better execution in just expressing it. And I say get them back together because they belong together. Emma did things for Scott that Jean never did and developed his character in a way Jean never could. I say they are my top favorite characters because they feed off of each other and when done right it is wonderful. They have those spots because they just compliment each other so well and make moments and interactions so much better when they do. I don't like how they have to be separated for Emma to really be...Emma. I do have a feeling that somewhere down the road, they will be back together and since Bendis likes to undo things he puts out, I see it happening somewhere in the late future.
