Looking for mature & intelligent arguments.
Are female adult actresses being oppressed?
Yes. In many cases, they are drugged or forced to take drugs. (mind you a person under the influence can't legally consent to sex).
There's a lot of abuse. An actress can say her safety word but the production won't stop. Some actresses don't even get safety words. They have to take every thing that's coming at them even if they want it or not. (Remember, consent can be with drawn at any times, even if you sign a contract; you can still withdraw your consent) There's a lot of rape in the industry. And a lot of workers can't speak out because they get blacklisted or threatened with lawsuits (even if they are in the legal right).
There's a lot injuries, tearing, bruises. A lot of porn isn't sex it's just sexual violence.
Also companies like to prey on very young girls, 18,19 etc. Coax and even force them. Sometimes they even go after underage girls and "groom" them until their eighteen.
Their are lots of problems in the industry.
These aren't problems that exist in the bigger recognized production companies (from what I've seen documentaries about anyway) some are even female run companies. I WOULD however bet money that this is the case with the smaller, fighting for scraps from the big companies, shadier production companies. Worse still are the self produced, or very small time "amateur" video companies. These are the main reasons I don't watch much porn. If I do, it's from one of the bigger "brand name" companies. It's pretty easy to tell one of these from the shady ones. Usually, the big names feature the women in control of most of the situations, or (more recently) they try to add some kind of actual plot with semi decent production values. The plot and acting are still stupid, but the production values are what let you know it's a "legitimate" company.
@kyrees: a broad generalization, but i guess since i live in the us, you say the us industry.
i wouldn't mind hearing your opinion on the japanese industry.

They whine too much.
Hm.
Some are. Prostitutes often do videos (this actually nakes prostitution art and it also guarantees it isn't a police officer). Many pornstars feel they have no choice. Most were abused sexually or physically.
But what about the guys?
Yes. In many cases, they are drugged or forced to take drugs. (mind you a person under the influence can't legally consent to sex).

That's really disturbing. And it seems like people aren't willing to help solve these issues because adult film workers are so looked down upon.
@ryagan: Porn also makes a lot of money to, don't quote me, but i think it's a multi billion dollar. As long as it's taxable and illegal, most people won't give it any attention.

rape and other sexual assaults in that industry are not reported given that there's a japanese mentality of keeping it in though there are a scant few reported. honestly, i don't see that much "uncommercialized abuse" in that porn genre as opposed to the american side given that mentality above and given that they are thousands other replacements for that one girl.
The phrasing of this question is really odd. Is food tasty? Are American actors tall? Are Canadian men left handed? Some are, some aren't, its not a yes or no question. Better question for mature and intelligent conversations would be: How would you say female adult actors are oppressed, and why? Or something along those lines.
Also some individuals in the adult industry can make a lot of money but thats not the case for every individual, and the divide can be quite extreme. Its because its one of those career paths that can attract individuals desperate for money, and so not necessarily there because its something they really want to do, which can complicate things and lead to types of exploitation, which I would also say is a better term to use than oppress, for this general topic/question. Would you say female adult actors are exploited, how and why? Alternatively could ask: Does the adult entertainment industry exploit people, how and why? I mean its still can be answered as a yes or no question, but the validity of either answer can depend on the reasoning and explanations given, making either potentially accurate.
It depends on the company they're working for and the types of shoots the actress typically does. If they do some of the... Kinkier shoots and are with a small time, shady company, then yeah, some messed up stuff can go down. If they're with someone like Brazzers and are doing a "normal" shoot, then probably not. Like most questions like these, it depends on the surrounding variables.
