Which do you prefer when watching a movie?
Animatronics or CGI?
I personally feel like animatronics have reached a peak. I feel like once CGI is perfected, animatronics will be obsolete; all we need to do is tune the physics a bit more, and it'll be nigh impossible to differentiate between CGI and real life (assuming it isn't a fantasy movie with obvious fictional characters).
So, CGI for me.
Cgi is easily pointed out because for some reason the characters stretch or just stand out.
I didn't know what animatronics were but if they're the example of mortal combat x then it's a stalemate
Animatronics are robots, we know robots keep getting better and better, besides they are real things the actors can interact with.
CGI build an acting problem that people call CGI acting, this is when you notice the actor is dealing with something it doesnt exist, this is also one of the reason why acting in blockbuster is so lackluster and they need Andy Serkis in set.
You need the acting to sell that CGI is actually a real thing.
Lets compare the Hobbit with The Lord of the Rings.
One was people with make up and the other was CGI.
CGI overuse killed The Hobbit and made the movie get video game moments.
Super Legolas Bros!!!
There is a reason why Star Wars and Jurassic World bring this back.
The best looking movie used tons of techniques and mixed together, they aged incredibly slower that the ones that only used CGI.
Jurassic Park 3 (2001) looks worst that Jurassic Park (1991).
Also lets be real Avatar looks like a XBox One game in several scenes.
CGI is a tool and has limits.
So does animatronics.
You can build a car, you cant build it only with a hammer.
