If you're talking about a serious scenario of war between the Untied States and Mexico, then the Mexican central government is wiped out within two weeks and US troops will be patrolling streets in the Yucatan before the month is over.

People seem to forget that Mexico's close proximity to the US puts it within range of various missile systems, not including the ICBM's. There are no great powers which will willingly aid Mexico in a war against the United States (China views Mexico as a competitor, Europe no longer has strong power projection capabilities, Russia wouldn't care, Brazil doesn't have the money or experience, all other powers would keep silent or support the United States). Mexico doesn't have a fleet powerful enough to stop the US from blockading their shores and launching a few hundred Tomahawk cruise missiles at key military and political instillations, similar to what happened recently in Libya. The problem will come in the Mexican population not allowing itself to go down without a fight, and this will prove to be yet another Iraq scenario for the United States, only it will be on the southern border.
