Post Flashpoint Martian Manhunter Respect Thread (Ongoing)
So this is just a little thing i thought i'd make, i've recently been reading everything J'onn J'onzz in Post-Flashpoint continuity. I would like to point out this is ongoing... i have yet to add a few feats and have not completed Justice League United. Feel free to post feats yourselves but they are required to cite the instance in which the feat occurred.
All scans wil bel links to my Imgur account as not to break any rules regarding scan limits, if it turns out this is not necessary i will begin to post them as scans on CV.
Without further ado...
J'onn J'onzz aka. The Martian Manhunter
Background -
Above is the Martian's first detailed history, at least from what i have seen, and it tells of how Mars was a paradise. J'onn was born to be the leader of Mars and had just completed the trial to become leader, in which he must experience isolation and loneliness, only to come back and discover that a psychic being called Thoth killed the planet when he telepathically reached out to touch them. (more on that in the telepathy section when i post J'onn's fight with Thoth).
More recently in Martian Manhunter's solo series we discover that J'onn was created to be a living weapon using the best technology and martian blood magic to be used in the 'Red Rising' and bring back Mars and it's inhabitants...
Now lets get to the rest of it...
Strength/Shapeshifting -
Now i struggled to find many quantifiable strength feats, as in lifting mountains etc. So this is a bit difficult to do... The first thing that comes to mind would be stopping Brainiac's planet sized mothership (alongside Superman) from crashing into earth however i have not gotten around to that instance yet so if anyone knows of this then could you help out here?
Also you are probably thinking that this is strange to put them both into the same category however in the New 52 shapeshifting seems to be a lot more common, or at least more obvious, and he often shapeshifts/adapts to suit his opponent...
- Martian Manhunter #1 - Shapeshifts into a dragon to stop a place from crashing (he couldn't accomplish this in his standard form because he realised it would put to much strain on the plane)
- Martian Manhunter #2 - J'onn manages to punch Superman hard enough to keep him out of the fight for 5 pages afterwards, this is the weaker Clark of recent times however
- Martian Manhunter #9 - This ones a bit strange. After being subdued (temporarily) by Martian anti-phasing energy spikes, the Martian then uses his shapeshiting abilities to bond/assimilate the mech reshaping it to his will and forming the "Martian Mech-Hunter". He also implies that he is only just discovering his true potential "I am more than i ever realised. I... have only scratched the surface" and currently J'onn is still split among multiple bodies so it's possible he still hasn't reached his full power
- Stormwatch #2 - The Martian takes on a new form to equal Apollo , Which proves quite effective. Also Apollo really is no joke, J'onn acknowledges his power and later on we see him doing quite a few impressive things e.g. one man meteor defence system
- Justice League #8/JLA #1 - Yup it's the Martian vs League scan again , It's vague yes but we got a little more to think about ,during Justice League of America #1 , When Steve Trevor refered to it as a "drag-out fight" (slang, a knock-down-drag-out fight is a very violent one) so it clearly wasn't a small 'straightener' and it was enough to convince Amanda he was "unmatched" , and... that it was enough to make him the JLA's answer to the Superman problem
- Justice League #22/Justice League of America #6 - J'onn vs Superman - A bit of an inconclusive fight because Superman mentally was quite distressed, having just believed he killed Dr Light, but a feat non the less. We see them engage in battle and later see J'onn holding of Supes and Flash then using the phasing trick on Clark
- Action Comics (as yet unknown but IIRC it was round about #34-38) - J'onn and Clark manage to force Brainiac's mothership, which as you can see is vastly larger than the planet, away from Earth (falling at 36,000mph). Both where displaying immense strain and while it could be argued that Superman is stronger I think it is fairly clear that the writers wished this to be a combined effort and not something that could be done alone.
Telepathy -
J'onn in the new continuity is a lot more liberal with his use of telepathy for offensive purposes...
- Martian Manhunter #1 - Telepathically induces peace and sleep in the minds of terrified plane passengers, pretty casually too
- Martian Manhunter #2 - Telepathically defeats Flash, Wonder Woman and Cyborg after knocking Superman down for a few pages
- Stormwatch #6 -Telepathic mind wipe (you'll realise he does this a lot)
- Stormwatch #12 -Erases Jenny Quantum's mind, she is a low tier reality warper (or close to it anyway) , J'onn casually takes Apollo out and erases his memories of J'onn , Does the same to Midnighter then leaves them both , and Midnighter has shown considerable resistance to telepathy in the New-52
- Justice League #8 - J'onn can quite comfortably read the minds of the JLA from Mars without their knowledge
- JLA #1 - Steve Trevor drops a hint of planetary level telepathic surveillance , ARGUS telepathic inhibitors don't mean much to a telepath like J'onn and it doesn't stop him from stating he could and would wipe Steve's, Amanda's and the rest of the departments mind
- JLA #2 - J'onn walks through the White House, setting of all of their anti-meta detections but uses "basic telepathy" to make it invisible to those monitoring
- JLA #2 -While retrieving information from Green Arrow's mind J'onn explains that he could rectify certain characteristics that Ollie has while he's in there
- JLA #3 -J'onn states how casually he can probe a mind but talks about how he makes a big deal of it to reassure his teammates, he also probes Catwoman
- JLA #5 - J'onn telepathically blocks Thoth, a powerful telepath with a toxic mind/psionic aura that kills anyone he reaches out to. Just prior he used his powers to reach out to Mars and ended up killing the entire race, all of them telepaths.
- JLA #7 -Dr Psycho is a telepath who was quite casually probing into Superman's mind (although he was sick at the time), Supes speaks of his minds strength but it means nothing to the Martian and he brutally mentally dominates him
- JLA #8 -Can read Flash's mind and track his thoughts even when thinking at near light speed
- Justice League #20 - Goes toe to toe with Despero, Despero tries to telepathically break the Martian... but ends up out of it days
- Green Lantern Corps #4 -Casually manipulates Guy Gardner, forcfully invades a Keeper's mind (essentially living willpower)
- GLC #5 -Reads the minds of GL's without trouble, downloads information into their minds, erases all memories of him from their minds
- Justice League United #3 - J'onn enters the mind and calms down an extremely powerful alien child (as in J'onn nor the rest of the JLU would have a chance)
- JLU #4 - J'onn continues to suppress the Alien Child with his telepathic link, Also a "Being of unimaginable power"
Durability/Regeneration -
- Martian Manhunter #5 - Mr Biscuit's, who is only an aspect of Martian Manhunter after he divided himself across multiple bodies, was bisected (arm removed and split in half) then was able to reattach his two halves and completely regenerate a new arm
- Stormwatch #2 - Apollo has enough of J'onn, he punches him and ends up on the ground
- Stormwatch #12 - Tanks a blast from Jenny Quantum, who at the time was altering reality because of her distress
- JLA #8 - J'onn (when at only half power) took a punch from Captain Marvel, this was an illusion (Captain Marvel and MMH are real though, just in a prison)
- JLA #10 - Stargirl with J'onn's powers (they melded in JLA 10) tanks a punch from Blockbuster with only a bloody lip, a punch that would usually kill her (also at this point Stargirl wasn't using J'onn's telepathy or shapeshifting so wasn't adapting to an attack) , and a hit from Giganta , then another assault from Blockbuster (and even now the damage isn't too severe but Stargirl is suffering emotional trauma) , Then once she gets a hang of the Martian's abilities... see for yourself (this is a perfect example of J'onn's versatility in combat) - This was an illusion created by Despero however it was true to reality and based on their own thoughts (as in derived from what they know of their powers and their opponents to ensure they do not discover the truth) so i believe it is still a perfectly viable feat.
- Justice League #20 - Despero takes a generous chunk out of J'onn's side, he isn't fazed and it begins to reform
Phasing -
- Martian Manhunter #1 - Some basic phasing
- JLA #2 - The phasing hand trick still exists
- JLA #3 - Manhunter demonstrates his fine control and combat applications of phasing, phases out his lungs to avoid poisonous gas and phasing through the creatures poison sting , phases himself and the blood covering his body to prevent it from burning of in the atomosphere
- JLA #10 - Stargirl with J'onn's powers (diminished powers however) showcases just , how effective this ability can be in combat , even on different wavelenghts for more challenging substances (and Stargirl has only just figured this out, J'onn's been learning and honing his abilities for years)
- Justice League #8 - J'onn displaying his simultaneous use of powers, GG Aquaman
- Justice League #22 - And the phasing trick works on Superman
These are not every instance where J'onn has used his phasing abilities however all you really need to know is he has fine control and can phase different parts of his body, phasing can virtually bypass durability (J'onn hurts Superman and Flash uses his variation to harm J'onn)
Miscellaneous -
- Martian Manhunter #4/5 - J'onn managed to survive being in the centre of what was essentially a molecular level dissembler/annihilator (as in atoms destroyed not the colloquial term) because he has split his consciousness and body into multiple different beings across the planet
- Martian Manhunter #5 - White Martian's possess their own formidable telepathy, being able to mentally block the entirety of an Airport without strain, and J'onn is the weapon of Mars and vastly exceeds any other Martian being
- Martian Manhunter #6 - All Martian's possess telekinesis, J'onn is no different (in fact one of his aspects was able to telekinetically throw cars but the extent of his abilities are not yet known)
- Martian Manhunter #9 - Martian Manhunter, even after all these years, now knows that he has only just scratched the surface of his potential. Maybe in the future and as his solo currently continues to progress we'll see even more Martian awesomeness
- Stormwatch #8 - J'onn is very intelligent, He has worked alongside Jenny Quantum on insane quantum reality warping mathematics
- JLA #2 - J'onn just giving you a rundown of all his powers
- JLA #10 - J'onn knows it, we know it... The Martian's more powerful than the Man of Steel
Battles -
- Martian Manhunter #2 - J'onn vs the JLA : In my opinion this is clearly J'onn trying to show the League what he could be, or rather what he is (the living weapon of Mars), and how easily he could dispatch of them. We already know he can go toe to toe with the League from JL #8
- Stormwatch #2 - Apollo, please...
- Stormwatch #12 - When J'onn decided he could no longer be with Stormwatch he began erasing himself from their memories (here he states he's already done it to Jack Hawksmoor). He fights Jenny Quantum, a low level reality warper type, and completely tanks a blast to the face then erases her mind effortlessly , he then does the same to Apollo and Midnighter, one shots Apollo, defeats Midnighter
- JLA #3 - J'onn hunting a dangerous beast with the potential to harm him, of course his versatility prevails and he not only kills the beast but absorbs it into himself (J'onn on the prowl is a terrifying thought)
- JLA #5 - Martian Manhunter defeats Thoth (Notice how it shows him unintentionally killing those he 'touches') , The guy with the toxic mind that killed all of Mars (a planet full of telepaths, even the planet itself was telepathically connected)...
- JLA #10 - Same deal as before, it is a telepathic prison however everything is based of their thoughts (they have the same abilities and are as powerful and capable as they know themselves to be). Stargirl in possession of weaker Martian powers takes a serious beating from some powerful super-villains until she gets a grip of J'onn's powers
- Justice League #8 & Justice League of America #1 - Remember that scan that everyone saw flying round ages ago? Well here it is... , And here's the part where it was fleshed out a bit more in JLoA #1 (read image descriptions)
- Justice League #20 - The (in)famous breaking of Despero at the hands of non other than J'onn J'onzz
- Justice League #22 & JLA #6 - Brief scuffle with Superman and Flash
Ongoing, will continue adding to this as the Nu52 progresses. Hopefully we get some speed feats because as of yet I cannot find any overly impressive feats. As always contributions are welcome but must be cited... Respect the Martian Manhunter!
PS - could someone please move this to the Martian Manhunter forum? i've tried myself but it just won't work
