Trailer for Fox's Lucifer Debuts

Fox has already ordered a full season for Lucifer based off the Vertigo comic of the same name. Today, Fox released a trailer for the 2016 show today on YouTube, which gives viewers a better insight into what the show is going to be about and the tone for the overall series.

The synopsis for the show is as follows:

Based upon the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, LUCIFER is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR (Tom Ellis, “Merlin”) has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub.

Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, Lucifer is enjoying his retirement, indulging in a few of his favorite things – wine, women and song – when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of Lux. For the first time in roughly 10 billion years, he feels something awaken deep within him as a result of this murder. Compassion? Sympathy? The very thought disturbs him – as well as his best friend and confidante, MAZIKEEN aka MAZE (Lesley-Ann Brandt, “The Librarians”), a fierce demon in the form of a beautiful young woman.

The murder attracts the attention of LAPD homicide detective CHLOE DANCER (Lauren German, “Chicago Fire”), who initially is dismissive of Lucifer. But she becomes intrigued by his talent for drawing out people’s secrets and his desire to dispense justice, doling out punishment to those who deserve it. As they work together to solve the pop star’s murder, Lucifer is struck by Chloe’s inherent goodness. Accustomed to dealing with the absolute worst of humanity, Lucifer is intrigued by Chloe’s apparent purity and begins to wonder if there’s hope for his own soul yet.

At the same time, God’s emissary, the angel AMENADIEL (DB Woodside, “Suits,” “24”), has been sent to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to return to the underworld…can the Devil incarnate be tempted toward the side of Good, or will his original calling pull him back toward Evil?

Lucifer will come to FOX in 2016.

I don't see anything about this that I like.

This dosen't look bad aesthtically by any means but I'm not quite feeling it. The idea of a borred Lucifer deciding to meeter out vigilante justice makes sense, but a empathtic soulful Lucifer meetering out vigilante justice not so much.

Man a Wic+Div TV series would be fun.

Sidenote: has anyone watched the rest of FOX's drama series trailers? They're all basically crime procedurals. I mean sure NBC's batch of trailers for new series all looked like parodies and false but cmon there's block programming and going overboard.

I honestly would have prefereed if they made a connection to the constantine show even,but with the unlikelihood of constantine returning for the second season,but I give the trailer a 6/10,I could honestly picture "manny" from constantine even guest appearing on the show,I will wait to see how this go

I am being such a fanboy stereotype right now but I am actually feeling upset by how bad this turned out.
Everything was wrong. Every single aspect of the trailer was wrong. No attempt was made to come close to adapting the Lucifer comics. Why even bother paying DC/Vertigo for the rights to adapt their character when the concept of Lucifer is already in the public domain and you're only using the slightest surface details from DC/Vertigo's version?

so the show creator's took the broadstroke points of an amazing comic series to create another Bones, Castle, etc buddy cop show rather than anything to do with the story Vertigo created?

I'd place all the blame on NBC but really the true slap in the face should go to the series "creators" for thinking up a horrible copy of the material with a backhand to DC/Vertigo for letting it happen.

Not that I'm one to need every panel from a series captured on film (ala Watchmen) nor do I care if the characters look like their comic counterparts (having watched Merlin I'm good with the casting of Ellis and what he can bring to the role) but if you're gonna go that far away from the source material to appease a different drama don't flaunt the connection to the source material simply out of respect for it and its creative team.

Plus, what's with Lucifer being seemingly weaker than Amenadiel? Just a strange departure from him being only eclipsed in power by his father with even the archangel Michael weaker than him (with a bit of exception based on Michael's powerset in the series). So it seems weird they would have Amenadiel physically threaten Lucifer when Amenadiel should be more than aware he couldn't come close to harming him so his role in the series and purpose is more "angel on the shoulder" constantly pushing his arguement to return to Hell. The presented scenes in the trailer feel too much like Supernatural's Cas or Constantine's Manny in trying to physically impose their point of view or mission.

Gonna give this one a pass....might have a few interesting twists but looks to tread on old territory that a supernatural angle just won't make memorable.

The 3rd most powerful character in the DC Multiverse who co created said Multiverse with his brother Michael, shrugs off blasts that can destroy an entire multiverse like its nothing, can manipulate all forms of matter in the Multiverse, the most cunning character in all of comics is going to be....a cop?

I've never read anything related to Lucifer at all, but I thought it didn't look half bad.

I'd watch it, it looks fun. Just doesn't look like anything I expected a Lucifer show to be like...

but if it was named anything else and not based on a Neil Gaiman book, I'd be into it. It's that connection that makes it all weird to me.

@kritikalmassx: Unlike iZombie, this isn't marketed for tween-age girls on Tumblr; and at least the acting in here appears to be //decent//. Don't get me wrong though, Lucifer still looks bad.

And yes, not just as a CB show but as an actual show, Hellblazer show would be phenomenal.
