A comic book serie, a tv serie, any ?

Only Marvel or DC ?

For TV it would be:

  • TMNT - The most watched cartoon before the Simpsons came out.

For comics

  • Daredevil - The 80's go:
    • Frank Miller & Klaus Jensen's run,
    • Dennis O'Neil & David Mazzuchelli's run,
    • Frank Miller & David Mazzuchelli's run,
    • Ann Nocenti & John Rominata Jr.'s run

The 80s were great. Some of my all time favorite comics come from the decade, but Chris Claremont's Uncanny X-Men is #1 for me.

Marvel's Transformers.

Swamp Thing and Firestorm Elemental Wars. (I still think that was the best Firestorm character design)

Frank Miller's Daredevil would probably be the best thing to recommend to a modern reader, IMO. John Byrne's Fantastic Four and Claremont's X-Men were also great, but their lengthy writing styles might be hard for a modern reader to adapt to.

@judasnixon: That's a great choice! Excalibur is a very solid, under-rated series, or at least the first half is, then the series sort of spirals but still, great answer. Most people just say the usual few: Claremont's X-Men, Miller's Daredevil, Stern's Amazing Spider-Man. nothing against these, they're some of my all-time favorites but there's so many other great gems from the 80's. The Defenders and Alpha Flight for example, which arguably had better writing than most Avengers gaps did during the 80's.

Well put, I agree. I remember it taking me some time to adjust to lengthy writing styles when I started re-reading 80's comics after being so accustomed to todays comics.

The Incal

I was also pretty fond of the Heavy Metal and 2000AD stories from this era. They had the best not-so-typical comic art, too.
