The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly was great.
Why do the third movies always suck?
3rd movies don't always suck.
The Dark Knight Rises was the best comic book film ever made.
Spider-Man 3 was alright. Wasn't great, but wasn't terrible either.
Iron Man 3 was... bad. I give you that one. Good cast though.
Haven't seen any of the Blade movies, so I can't comment on Trinity.
Last Stand wasn't bad at all. It wasn't great, but it was a good film. There was just too much going on.
Even outside of comic movies, Back to the Future 3 was good (not as good as the first two, but still very enjoyable).
I believe Cap 3 will be a good film (then again I thought the same thing about IM3 & Thor 2 and look what happened) and will prove the haters of 3rd movies wrong (Seriously, it's like people just hate the number 3).
On the topic of third movies, is there gonna be a Kick Ass 3?
@allstarsuperman: How about we just skip to the 'Agree to disagree' part, before we derail another thread.
Honestly I wasn't gonna do a rebuttal, lol. I am really interested in how someone can like it the best though.
The Dark Knight Rises was praised by almost every critics, I think It was on the same level as Begins.

Revenge of the Sith was better than the previous two so I don't see how the "third" movie always sucks
Same with Return of the King, it got better critical reviews and higher scores than the previous two movies also.
Do some third movies suck, yeah sure, do they all suck......no not at all.
I can't believe you're the first person to mention Return of the King! That was the first movie I thought of lol
@buttersdaman000: It was awesome! LOTR was my childhood when I was growing up.
I think that everyone's expectations of TDKR is raised to practically impossible standards due to TDK. But it's still a pretty decent and enjoyable movie.
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly was great.
was that a trilogy of some sorts, I thought it was a standalone.
I think its the world they set up, where can they possibly go but down or just ignore the cannon they created.
while I think Marvel is far to campy and uses the "you need us" court room/addressing the government or world line too much they possibly could go on forever with their movies the way the world is set up. their big guns all have movies with recurring villains, supporting characters and cameos. all along being under the umbrella of the Avengers who's villains plans seep into the standalone movies. they could add and kill off anyone with the world they created because they established the world is bigger then what the screen shows. Punisher can come and go without destroying the world they built.
Not the biggest fan of marvel movies(and what they did to The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes with the 80's G.I. Joe ripoff of Avengers Assemble) but I never seen execution of a gameplan like this from any film company. that deserve praise
Well I feel like they just don't know what to do with the character anymore.Third movies tend to try to give an end to the saga
Which I think is a really dumb, stopping a movie forces a reboot then we have to see the same thing over and over again.Instead they should maybe just give the spot to some one else,
1. Because they don't have enough material to work from MOST IMPORTANT!!!!
2.Cause actors are either getting to old,and/ or want to do something else
3.They are (instead of waiting, and thinking on how to take the next step)rushing to get another one out.As if they are in a competition to put the movie out.
And #1 is the most important as to why,Source material is what carries a movie whether its their own written plot or their pulling from a book.
Which is why movies like Star Wars,Twilight(even though I don't like it),Harry Potter,Star Trek,LOTR lore movies, tend to shine over the others
Cap 3 should break the cycle IMO. For one they have waaaayyyyyy to much goooood source material for a movie to suck.
Even if they don't feel like making it,they could literallyreach into a bag of Comics and pull out a good story.
this is my take on it though lol
Edit:don't know if its based off a book but Mission Impossible sequels are always good....alwayyyyssss
@ccraft: It was part of the Dollars trilogy: A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
@immortalone: Oh, thanks for clearing that up.
- The Dark Knight Rises (a 3 film) was awesome. I actually prefer it over The Dark Knight, but not over Begins.
- Return of the Jedi (a 3 film) is my favorite Star Wars film.
- Iron Man 3 was a much more enjoyable film than Iron Man 2, in my opinion. IM2 was boring, anticlimactic, and RDJ was overly obnoxious.
- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (a 3 film) is my favorite of that saga. Easily.
- Star Trek III: The Search for Spock was great. One of the best of the original six Trek movies.
- Army of Darkness (a 3 film) blows its predecessors out of the sky.
- Return of the King (a 3 film) was the best Lord of the Rings film through and through, although they were all fantastic.
- and the list could go on...
The Dark Knight Rises (a 3 film) was awesome. I actually prefer it over The Dark Knight, but not over Begins.
Always sweet to meet someone whom enjoys Batman Begins the most out of the Nolan trilogy like myself.

Great minds think alike. :)
they run out of ideas. probably. Friday the 13th 3 was where the whole "Jason as we know it" began, so i'd say that's the most important film. so not ALL 3rd movies suck.
Some facts about The Dark Knight Rises
AFI top 10 for the year 2012
88% on RT with an average rating of 8.0 based on 304 reviews, and 90% score by fans along with 4.3/5 average rating
78/100 on Metacritic
A on cinemascore
8.6 on IMDB
The opinions of a vocal bunch of fans centralized on a select few comic sites isn't gonna change anything.

This.
It's beyond me how people cannot see this film is praised, even MORE than Batman Begins. It's actually not only one of the best reviewed comic book films and films of 2012, but one of Nolan's best.
I'm just going to point out Army of Darkness
the Return of the Jedi of the Evil Dead series? the most hated by fans of the first two movies.
I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, but definitely ignores the tone of the rest of the trilogy, and descends into campy mediocrity
Dark Knight Rises is one of my favorite movies, and despite betraying its fanbase Iron Man 3 is still pretty good. The only other movie I've seen mentioned in the opening post is X-Men 3, which I agree is terrible. Also you forgot Superman 3, which is one of the worst movies ever

Admittedly it completely spits in the face of the Evil Dead 1&2(which I absolutely love), which in that case I can understand the disdain for it. That's why I treat it as it's own film which makes it a million times more enjoyable. I don't consider it by any means an amazing film, but it's still really fun and hasn't aged as horribly as it could have.
I think 3rd movies are way more likely to suck than 1st or 2nd movies, for the same reason that 4th movies in a series are more likely to suck than a 3rd, and so on and so forth. The quality tends to taper.
Why?
Because at a certain point, studios just start phoning it in. Beyond that, eventually the novelty wears off with audiences and, assuming a given movie was good enough to get these sequels, its hard to match those high standards again.
I'm not sure, the two biggest let down movies after I loved the second ones were Spider-man 3 and Transformers Dark of the Moon, but dark of the moon was far worse.
To say always would be wrong...however, you have a point....
Iron Man 3, Spiderman 3, etc.
I have a theory....MOST (maybe not iron man 2) sequels (even in gaming) put ALL THEIR EFFORT into the sequel/second films in efforts to encapture the audience in their franchise....once they get them hooked and put all their effort into the second film, they could GIVE A SHIT about the third...they already got them hooked, so they just crapfest and rush the third as an effort to make a profit and last buck on the third
SO hear me out here Transformers 1 was a good movie. Transformers 2 was Horrid. Transformers 3 was not as bad as 2 and was enjoyable and waaaaaay better than 4.
Because the sequel is usually cinematic perfection(Aliens,Dark Knight,Spider-man 2,Winter Soldier,Godfather 2, Empire Strikes Back)..So the studios paint themselves in a box by trying to go bigger or go home.(Dark Knight Rises, Spider-Man 3,X-Men 3,)..Not saying TDKR is a bad film or not great but like Spidey 3 and X-men 3 it's obviously very much inferior to the second film of the trilogy mainly because of all the cramed in Sup plots and cascades of villains. But like most things there are also exceptions to the rule like(SW Revenge of The Sith, LOTR Return of The King,HP Prisoner of Azkaban).:Which all can arguably be considered better the the first two...So the quality of the third film can vary widely depending on a variety of factors..So saying that the third film always sucks is a bit of a hyperbolic exaggeration.
