1. Wonder Woman. It's always been and will likely always be Wonder Woman.
2. Catwoman.
3. Batgirl
4. Supergirl
5. Jean Grey (Phoenix)
I know it seems odd to list mostly DC characters, but that's the thing: DC's characters are iconic. Non-fans know them by name, if not deed. Marvel characters aren't as popular, nor as old. Yes, that does have a lot to do with it.
This is a good indicator: walk up to a random person on the street and ask if they've ever heard of certain characters.

Are they your top 5, or are they females you think are the most popular.
As of 28/1/2013
These are the most popular ladies
Wonder Woman has 12 fans
Catwoman has 12 fans
Barbara Gordan has 7 fans
Storm has 6 fans
Rogue has 6 fans
Jean Grey has 5 fans
Harley Quinn has 4 fans
She-Hulk has 4 fans
Supergirl has 4 fans
Hit-Girl has 3 fans
Starfire has 3 fans
Black Canary has 3 fans
Emma Frost has 3 fans
Scarlet Witch has 2 fans

Cassandra Cain has 2 fans
Batwoman has 2 fans
Power girl has 2 fans

The three most popular ladies are

In no particular order, my favorite female comic book characters are: Catwoman, Rogue, Emma Frost, Shadowcat, and Barbara Gordon.

I cant really mix the two so here is my segregated lists.
In order first to fifth.
Marvel = Psylocke, Jubilee, Jean Grey, Storm, Rogue
DC = Batgirl (Cassie), Robin (Carrie), Catwoman, Talia Al Ghul, Harley Quinn
I'm greatful for you taking part. I hope other people list 5 females only.
oh, man, this is tough. DC probably has more female characters I like than male, but I'm just way too into Marvel characters, and X-men specifically, for them not to dominate my picks. And, if this is really based on my own personal feelings, it would really be insincere of me not to just go with it, . At least number one's a no-brainer;
1.) Storm, when she's done right, is arguably the most interesting, singular, and well developed female character in all of comics; really glad to see Wood's been returning her to her former greatness.
2.) number two with a bullet, has gotta be Kitty Pryde, if for no other reason than that she's been the main character of like half of my favourite comics.
3.) this one was tougher, but I'm gonna have to go with Emma Frost. I've just always liked how un-heroic her attitude is, and how creatively she flaunts her powers; just always a great read.
4.) though I'm not a fan of how some writers treat her like a nihilistic psychopath, when she's done right Mystique is one of the most complex characters (of any gender) in all of comics.
5.) I really only get one more, huh? well, let's go with Psylocke then. She's been getting more and more interesting for the last few years, and she's come a long way, baby.

Most popular.
So who your favorite females ?
1. Psylocke - My favourite X-Men run has to be the Outback years, where Psylocke was an awesome character. Then the whole Acts of Vengeance thing went down and she became an asian ninja. As gimmicky as it sounds, I totally bought into that, and she stands today as one of my favourite X-Men, or even one of my favourite female characters in the industry.
2. Rogue - She's come a long way from her debut, hell, Marvel greenlighted her an entire series (X-Men Legacy), which replaced the book in which she was kicking ass with her team (even if it only DID have awesome Chris Bachelo art for 3 arcs or so before being cancelled)
3. Jean Grey - She holds to me three of my favourite X-Men moments in history (Two of them easily in GM's run). No. 1, Dark Phoenix Saga when she and Cyke share their last moments, when Wolvie stabs her on Asteroid M and carries her into the inferno, and lastly, when she sacrifices herself to go back in time to make sure Cyke leads the X-Men
4. Emma Frost - GM introduced me to her (Actually, New Mutants did, but lets ignore that fact), Kieron Gillen's run made me accept her as a character, but above all, Joss Whedon made this character awesome. The story arc "Torn" is one of my favourite X-arcs.
5. M - Hey! I'm a fan of Generation X (Ignore the stupid St-Croix Paradox), and she's a staple in X-Factor. What more can you ask?
.....But, it's so hard to narrow it down. But I'll give it a go nonetheless. (Subject to change as and when you ask me)
1) Jean Grey
2) Wonder Woman
3) Captain/Ms Marvel
4) X-23
and....5) urgh, can't choose, too much pressure *explodes*
I'll go with Harley Quinn. Need a villain here somewhere....
But close would be Kitty Pryde (who is normally in the top 3), She-Hulk, Emma Frost, Stephanie Brown, Barbara Gordon,Hope Summers, Catwoman, Kate Bishop, Cassandra Lang, Zatanna, Supergirl e.t.c.
Lilith Mother of Demons, Selene Gallio, Madelyne Pryor, Storm & Emma Frost but only because the limit is 5 lol
Excluding no-name, obscure folk:
1. Catwoman
2. Psylocke
3. Epiphany Greaves
4. Zatanna
5. The Stalk
Honorable Mentions: Death of the Endless, Tank Girl, Batgirl (Stephanie Brown), Magik, Princess Amethyst, Ramona Flowers, Black Cat, Warbird, Poison Ivy, Abby Holland, Black Orchid, Belit, Madame Xanadu, Alana, Sif.

@ragdollpurps: Wait, wait, wait Psylocke isn't #1 with you? EVERYTHING I KNOW IS A LIE!
Both her and Selina are tied for first, but Catwoman is more prolific with appearances in other media so I gave the #1 spot to her.
My 5 favorite?x-23,Cassandra cain,Ms.Marvel,she hulk,Storm

@time: I know, I said it asked on the 3rd paragraph. Which is the one above the Rouge image.
I can understand how it can be confusing but, I think by people listing top 5 are, we can find out who are the most popular ladies are.
Who is your top 5 females, your favorite.
S@evilvegeta74 said:@time: I like your list except I'd take Rogue off and I think that's Buffy, who is cool, and add Carol Danvers and Storm
So your top five are
Ms Marvel
Storm
Psylocke
Jean
Buffy or Catwoman right
@time: I understand the point of the thread, I was simply noting how it could be confusing. Also, you can just @ reply if you can't seem to make quotes work correctly.
I'm using my Samsung tablet, typing on it is a pain, but it's easier for my hand than a pc. I injured my right hand and I'm right handed.
I was just wondering will you list your top 5 females.
