1. Would floyd, tyson, ali, and others be able to have some succeas in ucf or mma?

2. Would silva, GSP, bones jones, and others be able to succeed in boxing?

3. Which are the better fighters?

4. Which would do better in a REAL fight?

Use examples and good reasoning for your answers.

Tyson would be okay at MMA. He already has a brilliant stand up game so all he has to do is keep his opponent(s) on their feet, Ali would also have a chance at MMA. Good footwork, brilliant reflexes, and KO power. Floyd is just a little chicken shit that would always go for the clinch.....

Problem would be that both would struggle with the others match rules however IMO boxers would struggle a little more because their fighting style is a little more restricting.

But it can depend on the fighters

Boxer's are far above mma fighters in striking. In a street fight the only chance a mma fighter would have is grappling which would be a problem cause first they have to get close second ground fighting on concentrate isn't smart

Good point.

I would say that MMA is superior to boxing inside the MMA schema. The reason for this is: you can box in MMA if you want. You can do Jackie Chan style karate too. Neither of these styles ever goes very far. The ground game usually decides. Therefore: grapplers are supreme.

The concrete thing is an issue, but maybe they can lure them onto grass or something.

@edblank: Really you can't compare the two there are too many variables with mma the said fighter could be crap at ju jitsu and be a Karate master like that wonder boy dude.

1. Would floyd, tyson, ali, and others be able to have some succeas in ucf or mma? - Not really,Floyd especially would get wrecked because the weight division he'd fight in has so many technically proficient fighters and he's a one trick pony who's easy to exploit. Ali and Tyson may do better but against the best of their division they'd still get wrecked. Boxers are not used to dealing with takedowns and have no ground game...it's an easy victory, see James Toney vs Randy Couture for an example of this kind of fight.

2. Would silva, GSP, bones jones, and others be able to succeed in boxing? - Eh...not really, boxers train to be the best at what they do, you're putting someone who is a good boxer against someone who is an exceptional. They could do well of they changed their training massively and would likely do better than a boxer in an mma ring but still the answer is no.

3. Which are the better fighters? Mma fighters easily without question, they master more arts and if you put them against each other with no rules an average mma fighter should beat a great boxer. The best of both worlds is a non contest.

4. Which would do better in a REAL fight? - MMA fighters, please refer to my earlier answers.

Use examples and good reasoning for your answers. - I think I did...

@superhero24: Interesting but MMA fighter would beat a boxer in a MMA match and a boxer would beat an MMA fighter inside the ring. Not one boxer or MMA fighter would do any good at the others sport without a few months training and if they met on the street for a "proper fight" i'd give the edge to the average MMA fighter over the average boxer as he would be able to strike and grapple which is so much more helpful in a one on one fight that people realize.

@gokuss4z: Actually MMA fighters are better at striking. No one punches like a Boxer, that's true, but when someone else is also an expert at using their legs to strike it gives them a more significant advantage. Your point about them finding it difficult to get close enough to a boxer is also incorrect, if you'd seen any boxers try and fighter an MMA fighter you'd know that.

@mrhamwallet: I disagree with that the only mma fighters that are on par with boxers come from a striking background. On average boxers are better most mma fighters can't use kicks effectively enough to bridge the gap between the two. Of course they're are exceptions some boxers fight pro level mma fights and box at the same time so really thier one and the same.

@gokuss4z: "I disagree with that the only mma fighters that are on par with boxers come from a striking background."

That's a moot point as there are a good deal of mma fighters that come from a striking background. Regardless it's still not true, they're not as good at boxing as boxers, they are still better strikers overall.

"On average boxers are better most mma fighters can't use kicks effectively enough to bridge the gap between the two."

That's not only unfounded (especially in this era of both sports) but again incorrect. Boxers aren't used to having to deal with leg kicks, you take the mobility out of a boxer and he's done for if you're a decent mma fighter. Kicks to the body and face are more devastating than punches and once again it's something boxers aren't used to dealing with.

"Of course they're are exceptions some boxers fight pro level mma fights and box at the same time so really thier one and the same."

Please give examples, all boxers I have seen enter the ring against an mma fighter have been swiftly defeated.

Boxers are great at fighting boxers because that's how the sport works, mixed martial artists are great at fighting any single styled opponent...that's why they study multiple martial arts.

The individual fighter matters far more than the style being used.

@mrhamwallet: This argument is pointless due to how many variables mma has some mma fighters have awful striking skill I've seen ufc fighters that slap and punch with thier hands open and have no power in their kicks those guys would get destroyed by a boxer. But there are really bad boxers that would get destroyed by a mma fighter thats trained extensively in

karate boxing ect. So really it always comes down to the man.

@gokuss4z: Of course it comes down to the individual but that doesn't make the debate pointless. You either use an average individual from both sports or the best from both sports (Obviously men of a similar weight to keep it fair like they do in both sports).

What makes this argument pointless is the fact that the boxer doesn't stand a chance.

The boxer only has an advantage in a street fight if the mma guy is trying to trade punches with him. Even most boxers don't have knock out power unless they are doing all out haymakers or catch someone leaning into their punch. They don't just automatically ko people by landing a punch. They have no training at all in trying to punch someone while that person is doing a takedown on their ankle. Chances are that before they even knew how to react to it the mma guy would have their ankle and they would already be on the ground. From there it would be a ground fight and the mma guy would have a big advantage.

Lmfao. Kicking>>>>>>>>punching all day everyday. When you have the ability to use your whole body as a weapon you are far more dangerous than one who can only use his hands. Common sense.

MMA fighters wreck anywhere but in the boxing ring. The type of MMA fighter and Boxer also makes a huge difference.

Pretty much what everyone is saying. MMA fighters unless it's a boxing match.

Also it depends on the person.

Mma is more rounded.

But don't forget that mma can equal boxing, bjj, and wrestling. Or Muay Thai, judo, and karate. There's no saying what experience an mma fighter has. But it is a fact that someone who's trained in boxing alone will not be able to grapple efficiently.

It obviously depends on the person, but the sport of mma requires a much broader knowledge of martial arts than boxing. While boxing requires a much broader knowledge of that sport and art alone. For instance, in wrestling and bjj and other grappling arts, it is taught to keep your head up and eyes forward when shooting for a takedown in order to avoid a guillotine or another choke/neck crank. However in boxing and most other striking arts, it is taught to always keep your chin tucked away to protect your on and off switch essentially.

That's a lot of explanation to just say that in mma, you gotta be able to defend against boxing, Muay Thai, Kung fu, even capoeira. In boxing you defend against boxing. An Mma fighter would have An impossible time taking on an undefeated Veteran boxer in a boxing match, but in an mma match that boxer will get taken down and submitted quick. An amateur mma fighter v's an amateur boxer however in a boxing match could be fair (still depends on the fighter). But someone who's had a year of boxing training v's someone who's had a year of mma training (basically Muay Thai and bjj) in an mma match is nearly still a stomp, not knowing how to grapple is the boxers biggest kryptonite.

It depends on the fighter, style is void it comes down to who is fighting. Assuming both fighters have equal experience and equal skill in their respective fields than the MMA would obviously win. Not only does he have a more well rounded striking game but he also has the obvious advantage of grappling game. However any fight could go anyway in the street and again it's the fighter that make the fight not the style.

1. Who knows? They're different people with different goals, levels of fitness, and interests. Fighters work much like any other athlete. Would Peyton Manning be good at rugby? Would Usain Bolt be a good soccer player? All that matters is the athlete's dedication. If Mike Tyson was persistent in becoming a proficient MMA fighter, he probably would become one.

2. Refer to my previous answer. By the way, most mixed martial artists have at the very least dabbled in boxing so most are probably already decent at it.

3. This varies between each individual fighter. If you're referring to the martial arts themselves and asking which one is "best," I'd say they both have their benefits and drawbacks. Boxers are very efficient at knocking their opponents out with their fists quickly while minimizing the injuries they receive from enemy punches. However, MMA fighters are very well-rounded, making up for any weaknesses they might have with a wider arsenal. A boxer might have far better stand-up game, but what is he going to do when an MMA fighter tries to take him down?

4. Once again, this would vary greatly from fighter to fighter. A lot of it would depend on their individual skill level, their experience, and their ferocity. Sometimes, it just comes down to who hits first in street fights.
