Which universe do you think is more diverse ( provide evidence if possible) ?
Just curious since there's a diversity problem in comics...

I would guess Marvel, but thats probably more those I'm aware of since DC tends to stick to their A-Listers more than Marvel.
I'd say DC perhaps. I can think of more from that universe than Marvel. You got Mr Terrific, Icon, Black Lightning, Black Manta, Black Adam, Batwing etc
Probably Marvel. I may be biased though since I'm still trying to figure out why Static Shock disappeared from the DCU after his title got cancelled

There's a diversity problem? How so?
@nerevarine_11: Black Adam's not black duder
Marvel- Black Panther, Storm, Momet, Darwin, Cloak, Frenzy, Luke Cage, Blade, Jericho Drumm, Sam Wilson, War machine, Misty Knight, Prodigy, NightHawk, Glory Grant, Ceclia Reyes, Oya, Bling!, Tombstone, Prowler, Miles Morales,
DC - Cyborg, Vixen, Mr. Terrific, John Stewart, Bumblebee, Mal Duncan, Steel, Black Manta,
i would say Marvel promotes Black Superheroes better.
Actually the OP said characters not just heroes so your lists could be bigger
@mutant_god: i just named all the ones i could think of at the time.
Because 65% of the population is white, hence most superheroes are white.
Marvel- Black Panther, Storm, Monet, Darwin, Cloak, Frenzy, Luke Cage, Blade, Jericho Drumm, Sam Wilson, War machine, misty Knight, Prodigy, NightHawk
DC - Cyborg, Vixen Mr. Terrific, John Stewart, Bumblebee, Mal Duncan, Wally West
i would say Marvel promotes Black Superheroes better.
The highlighted aren't African American. A couple of the others might not be too (unsure about Darwin And Jericho Drumm)
I don't know which universe has more black characters, but Marvel has definitely better ones:
- Storm
- Blade
- Black Panther
- Luke Cage
- War Machine
- Falcon
- Spectrum (Monica Rambeau)
- Misty Knight
DC has some good characters like Cyborg, Mr Terrific, John Stewart (Green Lantern) and Vixen, but Marvel is definitely better

White superheroes seem to get way more than 65% of the spotlight though.
I think less than 65% of the population is white, unless you just mean United States. Either way, Americans aren't the only ones writing, drawing, otherwise creating, reading or starring in American comics, so there's more factors to consider.
@v_scarlotte_rose: 65% of Americans are white.
Most people who read comics are from the United States, and even if they were from countries in Europe, the population statistics are similar.
And yeah, it's a little bit higher than 65%. It's probably about 75% of characters are usually white, which isn't a huge jump.

This is true.
Kinda why it turns me away from reading comics, to be honest, since I'm black and get turned off by all the white superheroes I always read.

There are lots of factors.
Just because 65% of Americans are White, doesn't mean 65% of comic readership is White, the number may be much higher.
If I were to make guesses as an example -
Also, If Black people are generally okay with buying comics starring White characters (such as Batman), then it may not make much financial sense for DC to make Black characters as they can just sell the White characters to everyone.
@dan12456: Storm was born in America even though she was raised in Africa so she is African American.
was just asking since i think itd be nice to have a tv show based on a african american superhero or a black hero in general...so the general consensus is that marvel has more black characterS?
@scrawlx101: There will be a Luke Cage series on Netflix
I don't really think there's a 'diversity problem', Marvel has done everything they can to diversify their comics in recent years. Some decisions I haven't minded, others I think are just PC stunts that make no sense.
Having said that, as someone who reads most publishers, it seems Marvel does a better job promoting their non-white heroes even if they don't have the highest numeric count of them (I don't actually know who has the most).

I don't think so, most people in US are white so most superheroes will be white, most anime characters are Japanese for the same reason.
I believe that If comics grow more popular outside US heroes from other races will start make huge sucess

The difference with anime when you watch it they make a lot of them look white. I mean hardly any anime actually make the characters look Japanese even though they are supposed to be Japanese. The Anime creators always seem to go for a weird American/Japanese hybrid design for characters.

You let the race of the characters turn you on affect whether or not you read comics???

DC- Amazing Man , Static , Aqualad , Firestorm , jet , lightning , maximum , Muhammad x , rocket , XS , hotspot , bronze tiger , you know just name a few , and majority of those marvel characters you named , are rarely promoted , and maybe not even at all
@birdman400: except for Cyborg, Gl John Stewart & vixen that's it.

They are still Japanese so there is a lack of diversity, also how much black protagonists there is in anime?Or arabs, latinos,Indians etc?
Probably Marvel. I may be biased though since I'm still trying to figure out why Static Shock disappeared from the DCU after his title got cancelled
Yeah I hated when they did it, Static Shock was my favorite superhero cartoon.
@bluehope: In anime everyone looks American, acts american/Japanese and are from America, Japan or somewhere made up. There are no one else normally in these shows haha.
