@theamazingspidey: I dunno..I think They very much WANT WW to be huge hit... and JL. But it's different than needing. It's not like if these two films under-achieve WB is going to go out of business and DC is going to sell all their rights to Marvel. It'll just be a "too bad that happened" sort of thing and then move on. Besides, getting back to the OP..since when is a "discombobulated mess" necessarily a bad thing. From a telling story POV few stories were a bigger mess than CW and it did fine. (Granted the marketing and production were good, but if you know anything about story-telling...Zemo's plan had a 0% chance of working and yet still did.) So if the script is a mess..that can be overcome, and it the action genre often is. If the production is a mess, that's a different story.
You're right. Neither of those films being critical failures would discontinue the DCEU: after all, they've invested too much in latter projects to pull out, but I do think if the film financially flops - well, I can only imagine what DC would do, lal.
To address the latter part of your comment: well, the "inside source" (hypothetically) didn't speak of the film favourably at all. If he/she said "well, the story is a mess, but it's still a fun action film" that'd be a different story, but here's what they said:
I'm very disappointed in what I saw, and it seems like all the problems are the same problems.
Key phrase is "same problems."
There's a difference between BvS-kinda mess and Civil War-kind of mess. Civil War, like literally every other superhero film in existence, relies on story elements that require suspension of disbelief, but it's still a pretty well-edited, well placed film that, for a story of it's scale, worked pretty well (I'll avoid using hyperbolic terms 'cause I rather not get off topic and turn this into a is Civil War overrated or not discussion, Lol), while a mess in the vein of BvS is choke full of structural and momentary editing problems, isn't very well paced, structured or well told. Since the so-called inside source speaks of the film unenthusiastically and adds same problems [as past DC efforts] this is being projected as more of a Suicide Squad/BvS editing/filmmaking mess than a suspension of disbelief Civil War kinda mess.
Just my two cents.
