How was Luke able to progress his skills with the Force so quickly?

If I understand it correctly, Anakin had an even greater potential with the Force, was dedicated to his Jedi training for over a decade, and had years of combat experience fighting in the Clone Wars.

Since Luke was able to legitimately contend with Vader on the second Death Star which is said to be Vader's prime, I'm guessing he was even better than Vader's former self (Jedi).

So how did Luke become so powerful in such a short period of time?

He had Anakin's potential. Anakin was pretty much the same way in that he learned faster than any other Padawans, so on and so forth. Least in Legends.

@wolfrazer: But when Luke fought Vader, who I believe is supposed to be deadlier than Anakin, he only trained with the Force for like 4 years whereas Anakin trained for like 13 years(?). I'm pretty sure Luke is supposed to be better than Anakin, although I'm not sure how that would be possible
