It is that the sheep-like masses have fallen for yet another idiotic fad and Marvel and DC are more than happy to capitalize upon. If people didn't buy these books they wouldn't exist. Pretty simple really. Sad, but simple.

They might as well release superhero-themed adult diapers to compliment with the childishness of the current generation of comic fandom. I mean it's not like the industry isn't already pandering to all the whiners who get offended by attractive women and other stuff.

@NukeA6: @deitydeity: You two do realize that most of the comic publishing companies pay people to color, right? Coloring isn't just a thing for kids. I actually might ask for the Star Wars one for my twentieth birthday next month.

EDIT: Just saw the release dates. Maybe for Christmas then.

@zearing: It is an insult to every comic book colorist to compare what they do to what people do in 'adult coloring books'. You should really apologize, it is that bad. Comic book colorists require dedication, training, talent and hard work. "Adult Coloring Books" only requires a high level of infantilism.

@deitydeity: I'm not saying that most people are at the level of a professional. What I meant was that these can let people practice so that maybe someday they can be a colorist themselves. I mean, think about it. People need to start somewhere, and as much as lots of us, myself included, would like the artists we have today to stay around forever, realistically that isn't going to happen. So, these might be able to let dedicated, talented people train and work at becoming the next generation of creators.

By the way, no offense meant here, but have you even seen an adult coloring book? My mom has one and they are quite different than the ones for kids that you get at the dollar store. The art is much more complicated and nuanced, not just a simple flower or a cartoon dinosaur. Those things are not for babies.

I can't imagine an adult coloring a book. These coloring books are for kids and only.

See, there's a difference. Adults read comics, not color comics. Yes, we all have our inner childish selves, but that doesn't mean these coloring books are for adults.

Wow, so much hate over coloring books. "Adult coloring books" are usually much more detailed than the ones you'd find for kids. But you're all so high and mighty you'd never know that. I think these are cool and I want the Dr Strange one.

These are really cool, I am definitely getting the Star Wars one.

Adult colouring books have their benefits for example they can be used to decrease stress and they can train the brain to focus. So I don't think it is fair to say that adults should not use colouring books.

The comics you read must just magically colour themselves then, after all no adults colour comic books so how else could they be coloured?

@atheistknowledge:Yes, I know the definition of oxymoron. What I don't know is why an adult coloring book fits that description.

@NukeA6: Explain to me what the fundamental difference is then, other than quality of work. Yes, the professionals are better at it, but that is true with everything.

Think of it like a group of kids playing basketball. They are still following the same rules as the pros, for the most part anyway. The difference is just that the pros are trained and have likely practiced more, and are certainly more motivated that the kids who just play for fun on occasion. But they are still both playing the same game.

It's the same concept here. The average person coloring at home to relax or for fun isn't usually as good as a professional. However, they're both still doing essentially the same thing.

Also, I want to say this again. Adult coloring books aren't the same thing as the books you would buy at Walmart for your kid or younger sibling. They are much more detailed, usually with intricate designs that actually take time and concentration to color properly. Before you say that it is childish, maybe you could take a look at one and compare it with a more "traditional" version.

I don't understand the hate. Nothing wrong with a little coloring. Seems pretty cool, if you're too lazy to draw your own or you're not a good artist or whatever. Or you could just gift this to some kids who like to draw and stuff, and they'll probably appreciate the cool art.

@zearing: Just stop. Your comparisons and examples are getting dumber with each post.

Adult coloring books are more detailed? And? Doesn't change the fact that it's still an activity that a child can accomplish with crayons or colored pencils.

You've made quite a joke of yourself being all butthurt like the little SJW you are. I won't be surprised if you're defending Adult preschool from the way you're behaving. People like you are proof enough that Western society is getting dumber and childish every year.

If an adult wants to color let them color. Plenty of adult including myself still collect action figures yet it's not looked down on in nerd culture but if you buy a coloring book than you're man child. Simply fact of life, when we're kids we want to be adults and when we're adults we wished we were still kids.

@NukeA6: "it's still an activity that a child can accomplish with crayons or colored pencils" And? Just because it's something a child an do instantly makes it idiotic? A child can read, does that make reading dumb, and something adults shouldn't do? Just because you think adult coloring books are dumb doesn't mean others can't enjoy them. If you don't like something fine, but no need to knock others who do.

Dude. How can you be that ignorant? There is proof of God EVERYWHERE. Here, I'll tell you personal story of mine that will 100% make you believe in God. Or your money back.

Alright. This happened when I was about eight years old. It was a cold, dark, windy night and I was home alone with my sister. Our parents were on a date, you see.

Anyways, around 11:45 PM, I started hearing a strange noise coming from outside the window. It almost sounded like a group of teenagers. Instantly I was terrified.

I grew up in a crime-ridden city, okay? Delinquents were a child's worst nightmare.

Anyways, I ended up dismissing it after a while. They weren't bothering me. Until- CRASSSH! They threw a bottle at our building. Terrified, surprised, and intrigued I went over to my window and looked down at the thugs.

And they looked back up at me.

"Hey! That kid saw us!" One of the smaller ones shouted out.

"Who gives a sh*t?" An older one said.

"He might call the cops..." A third said.

They began arguing amongst themselves. I, of course, had already retreated from the window and locked the apartment door. Then I hid under a blanket. I was paralyzed with fear.

And my sister just sat in her own room, by herself, with headphones in. Completely oblivious. I didn't tell her anything in fear of her telling our parents. Stupid, I know. But you have to understand that I was just a child then.

After about five minutes, I crawled back over to the window and looked outside. They were gone without a trace.

Where did they go that fast? My apartment had a view of the entire block.

Wait.

No.

Please, please, please. No. God no! NO!!

I could hear them knocking on a door across the hall. They were looking for me.

*knock* *knock* *knock* my door rang.

Instantly, as a chain reaction, I started violently sobbing. They heard. Of course they heard. There are no breaks for an inner-city kid.

As you'd expect, they broke the door down. I was living in a horror film.

One with a red jacket and unkempt hair scared me the most. It wasn't because he had a weapon or because he was the biggest... It was because this bastard literally looked at me in the eye and smiled. He seriously smiled. At an innocent kid who was frightened and on the verge of peeing his pants.

They slowly moved towards me as a group. I weeped harder. I didn't even think about whether or not they had found my sister. I could only think of survival!

And then HE came. He lept through my window as if he were a creature of the night.

With a single precise strike, he made the one in the red jacket fall to the ground. It was like he knew the red jacket one was the worst of them.

THWOP, THWOP, THWOP! He took them all out with brilliant and precise swings of his limbs. It was glorious.

And, without even looking at me, he left back through the window. Not only was I relieved... I was satisfied.

I stepped over the unconscious thugs and made my way to my room. I knew that they would find their way out. They wouldn't be terrorizing Gotham any longer

I instantly jumped onto my bed and got into the prayer position. Weeping with joy and conviction, I let the light of Chew sweep into my body and overtake me from head to toe. My God hadn't just salvaged my body from harm that night. He salvaged my soul, too.

@MysticMedivh: @overlordarthas: Please, brothers. Tell him of our God.

@roaris87: Sure. After all, there's grown men who are overly obsessed with a pony tv show aimed at little girls.

@granitesoldier: You mean like The Dark Knight? Watchmen? Absolution? The Boys? Yeah, for little kids. Regardless, many superhero comics stopped have had their target audience changed years ago. Not the same as coloring which is viewed as childish even for second graders.

I don't understand the people who come in here and bash this because it's "childish"...my 88 year old grandmother loves her adult coloring books and she also loves puzzles...is she "childish"?

what about your shelves of comic book related toys or how about the comics themselves?

the biggest thing that I've heard from people bashing comics is that they're "childish" so I guess that everyone in here saying how these adult coloring books are childish are now just as big of d!cks as those people

@roaris87: The fact that you and others feel the need to defend this activity just proves you are big babies. We all have our guilty pleasures but this is just pathetic.

There are plenty who view videogames as waste of time, money, and even a kid's toy but you don't see me whining about it.

I bash on this because apparently people are now thinking that acting like an overgrown child is normal. But what I can expect from a people who get offended by anything and everything?
