In the Marvel Universe, which team is the greatest?

I'm specifically referring to in the Marvel Universe itself, who between (also specifically) the Avengers and Fantastic Four are considered to be the greatest team by the public?

Has it ever been explored? There are a lot of factors involved... I mean besides Government connections and arguing over which team is more global/has a larger presence, I don't know.

Avengers = Earths Mightiest!!! When there is an invasion of alien dog donut men they call the Avengers not the FF or X-men.

I always enjoyed The Thunderbolts.

Avengers out of those 2... but out of the Marvel Universe, The X-Men.

I'm talking about the public in the Marvel Universe.

Greatness is independent from popularity, though. While the Avengers aren't well-liked (and with good reason), they have had the greatest impact on the trajectory of the Marvel universe. And like EarthsMightiest said, they are the ones you call when the **** hits the fan. The Fantastic Four are more like explorers and diplomats, and the X-men are perpetually involved in mutant wars.

Well..I don't read much Avengers, but they are the good guys, while the FF has an on/off relationship with the public (currently it's off.) I'm sure the Marvel Universe is set up to have The Avengers be the #1 group.
