I have been out of the comic game for a few months now due to a tight budget. I'm able to start buying more comics now but to be honest I was getting bored with a lot I was reading. I'm more of a DC guy but will read Marvel if the creative team is doing well. Does anyone have any recommendations?
I Need New Books To Read
Right now I'm reading:
Marvel: All New X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy.
DC: Aquaman, Supergirl, and Red Hood and the Outlaws.
I really recommend All New X-Men, GotG, and Aquaman. I also think Supergirl is pretty good, but it might not be for you. I'm definitely going to drop Red Hood and the Outlaws, so I would recommend against it.
@kyleandrewmurdoch: If money is an issue I'd look into some webcomics, they're free to read online and there's some pretty creative ones.
That said I haven't really run across one that feels very "DCish" yet so I can't give an exact recommendation.
DC:
· Superman Unchained
· Batman/Superman
· Wonder Woman
· The Flash
· Justice League Dark
· Animal Man
· Green Arrow
· The Wake (Vertigo)
Marvel:
· Hawkeye
· Thor: God of Thunder
· Indestructible Hulk
· Hawkeye
· Daredevil
· Did I mention Hawkeye?
Image:
· Saga
· Fatale
(I’m certain there’s more good stuff coming out from Image, just not that I’m reading at the moment so I can’t personally make any more recommendations)
Valiant:
· Everything
I've really been enjoying Batman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, and Nightwing for DC.
And even though it just started Batman/Superman looks great so far.
I also have to recommend Thor: god of thunder and Deadpool for Marvel.
I recommend all of these
1. Secret Avengers Primary Title: It's a Fantastic Series,So much Fun
2. Guardians of the Galaxy Secondary Title: I have all the Issues so far, I'm a Big Fan of Cosmic and Starlord new costume is Surprisingly cool
3. Ultimate Comics X-Men Tertiary Title: From Issue 29# |
I have a pretty short pull list, but my favorites include Green Arrow (ignore everything before issue 17), X-Men vol. 4, Brian Wood's Star Wars, TMNT, and X-O Manowar.
DC I guess you should get Batman/Superman, Aquaman, Batman, Batman and Robin, Justice League.
Here are other comic titles you don't want to miss, check out the pictures!
X-O Manowar; Valiant Comics/ type Action/Sci-fi
Shadowman; Valiant Comics/ type horror/mystery
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; IDW Comics
Hellboy; Dark Horse Comics/ Top 3 on IGN best Indie Books
"Each offers a signature blend of supernatural adventure, humor, and gorgeously moody visuals. Hellboy manages to appeal to readers of all types. Those craving mystery and conspiracy will find plenty."
You might want to look into Dynamite Comics, with characters such as Green Hornet & Kato, The Shadow, The Spider, Black Bat,
Miss Fury, Zorro, and others. If your interested in those characters try the comic Masks it has all this characters in the book. And amazing art by Alex Ross!!
@kyleandrewmurdoch - Here are my three favorites at the moment. Each of these are getting rave reviews and they've all been pretty self-contained. If you're a trade paperback kind of guy, you can get the early trades for each of these on Amazon.
1. Batmanby Scott Snyder
“[Writer Scott Snyder] pulls from the oldest aspects of the Batman myth, combines it with sinister-comic elements from the series’ best period, and gives the whole thing terrific forward-spin by setting up an honest-to-gosh mystery for Batman to solve.” —Entertainment Weekly
“Bruce Wayne is a badass. The end.” —IGN, 9.5 Rating
2. Hawkeye by Matt Fraction
"One of the best and most interesting superhero books on the stands." —ComicBookResources.com
"This is a series that needs to be read." —ComicVine.com
3. X-O Manowar by Robert Venditti
"X-O Manowar is awesome. I'm not going to spend hours here coming up with wacky adjectives or ridiculous analogies to describe this [series]. It's just awesome." —ComicVine.com
"X-O Manowar is completely and totally kick ass. If you thought things would settle down and Aric would get a moment to adjust to the new time period, you would be dead wrong...The book looks fan-freaking-tastic." —IGN, 9.0 Rating
@awesam: Thanks! I was reading Aquaman when New 52 started but couldn't keep interested in it. I really liked All New X-Men so I think I'll take your advice on that one. Why are you dropping Redhood?
@decoy_elite: Thanks! Where can you read those?
@kyleandrewmurdoch: Honestly, I was reading it for Jason alone. They did well with Starfire and Roy, but Roy started going from anti-hero to hero. Same goes to Jason. The story arcs themselves are also really bad. It's just such a waste of such a good team with so much potential. Really painful to read since I'm huge fan of Red Hood. Although the story was trash, I held hope. I also loved the art. Once the new artist came in, I dropped it. Bad story + bad art just wasn't worth it anymore. I might replace it with Nightwing and then pick it up again if it goes in a better direction.
@kyleandrewmurdoch: What kind of comics? relative new or just anything good?
@kyleandrewmurdoch: A new event for DC called the Trinity War is coming up. My ratings go from awesome, great, good, alright, boring.
- Wonder Woman is awesome!
- Earth 2 is awesome!
- Superman/Batman just started and is great!
- Justice League of America is great!
- Superman Unchained just started and is great!
- Justice League is great
- Batman is awesome
- Injustice is awesome
- Superman is alright
- Teen Titans is boring.
@decoy_elite: Thanks! Where can you read those?
Online, you can just google "webcomics" or just start somewhere like Dr.McNinja.com and work your way through the links on the side.
@awesam: I see. That's a bummer.
@ccraft: How is TMNT going... I heard it was amazing.
Also I'm a huge Hellboy fan. Any good places to pick up right now..
