So it's nothing new that non-comic readers don't always like when a character they don't know much about shows up, but do you think some of the heat Robbie's getting lately is unnecessary? Or do you think it's justified? For those who don't know, Robbie Reyes is the new Ghost Rider who is going to appear on Agents of Shield.
A majority of the complaints I've seen against Reyes is that
-He's not Johnny Blaze
-He drives a charger instead of riding a motorcycle
-He's not a spirit of vengeance
-His skull "looks bad"
Reyes is new yes, but he's not that bad imo. His rider is suppose to be different because he was designed to be different. There's nothing to say that Blaze won't show up later in Netflix or later on in regards to Robbie..He did show up in his book after all when Blaze heard word of a new rider in town. He helped Robbie learn to control his powers and gave Eli the Penance Stare.
Though yes..Things do get complicated as you see Blaze point out that Reyes isn't a true Ghost Rider. For me that felt like a neat twist, for once we have a Ghost Rider who's actually bonded to an evil spirit. What gets me is that some are saying Robbie is Marvel's political correctness at work again. I'd have to disagree, Robbie seems like one of the few diverse characters who was made that can actually be seen as their own character..Not a character designed for whatever reason Marvel seems to do nowadays. IMO the only thing that Robbie needs work on was his backstory as his story didn't really get interesting until the last 3-4 issues imo, however I bet the general audience will like Reyes once they see what he can do..Besides, not all Ghost Riders ride motorcycles
