Greatest Writer of All Time

There have been many great comic book writers over the years and I am curious which is your favorite.

After that Mark Millar and Ellis

Robert Kirkman is my favorite comic book writer.

I'm new to comics, but so far I've been spoiled with the writing of Scott Snyder and Robert Kirkman. I'm sure they won't be considered "All Time Greats" right now, but man sometimes I find myself preferring their writing over some of the past great ones.

Yeah, he's great, and he's incredibly consistent. I've yet to read a book I didn't like from him.

Joe Hill And Stephen King, the American Vampire and Cape saga were surprisingly well written.

Though Neil Giman, Grant Morrison, and Rick Remender are in my tops :3

And only Bendis due to the Ultimate Spidey Arc.

He wrote the absolute worst arc(s) in Ultimate X-Men.

I never cared for writers much, just the artists when I was growing up. But after reading Watchmen, with its crappy art, and an awesome story, I realized how awesome writers were.

I'd say Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman. Let's not forget Stan Lee. Maybe not the "best" but obviously influential. Personally, I also like Scott Snyder and Mark Waid a lot. Back in "the day" Denny O'Neil and Steve Englehart had their runs. Lastly, I think Gerry Conway may be most under-appreciated. (Yikes, I'm dating myself...I might as well talk about Jim Shooter or Jim Starlin.)

1. Moore, Morrison, Gaiman, Ennis
2. Miller, Millar, Waid, Ellis, Loeb (at his best)
3. Byrne, Robinson, Johns (as long as he's not retconning)

Stan Lee. Even though he was never the sole writer, he has been part of comics even in the begining.

Will Eisner, of course.

Have to go with Stan Lee.

Paul Dini - Super underrated. Has huge range in the types of stories he can write. Great at writing stories that are just enjoyable and entertaining without trying to be "shocking" or "groundbreaking."

Grant Morrison, Alan Moore, and Mark Waid. Honorable mentions to Jeph Loeb and Frank Miller (back in the day).

For me, it has to be Gardner Fox. My number one filled with bias, as he is also my favorite.

I can't believe people are saying Grant Morrison. Someone give me one arc that can be put alongside other legendary works.
 
Chuck Dixon - Truly was an architect of Batman. He wrote Knightfall, Cataclysm, No Man's Land. He was, truthfully, the first writer to really punish Batman. To see what happens when you break the seemingly unbreakable.

I'm not saying he's the 'greatest', but Brian K. Vaughn is up there for me. Everything he writes draws me in.

Its hard to pick a favorite because writers seem to fit a certain character more than others. I could go on with the list but you all get the point.

There isn't a "greatest writer (singular)", lots of different writers have done fantastic work on various characters and not everyone has the same favourite character or style of writing, so everyone's opinion will be very individual and diverse.

Wait, I swear Dixon wrote NML? According to Wikipedia -

Rucka was behind NML,since it was a huge crossover many others wrote parts of it as well including Dixon,Grayson,Puckett etc.
