DC Celebrates "The New 52" Reaching Issue 52 with Variant Covers

To celebrate "The New 52" reaching 52 issues, DC is paying homage to the issues that kicked off the series by having artists recreate #1 covers. Each of these covers may be a bit updated to reflect what the characters look like now. This will be a part of May's variant cover month.

There are 11 series getting this cover treatment. Here's the books hitting issue 52 and the artists creating the covers.

That Catwoman one will always be my fave

Green Arrow is my favorite.

The Flash, Green Arrow and Green Lantern are my favorite covers.

I love the Detective, Action, Batman and Catwoman ones.

Rafael Albuquerque Batman is pretty killer.

I love Szymon art. Facial expressions in his art are so vivid. It's amazing

Cool. I really don't like how Norm Rapmund draws noses.

Most of these are pretty good, especially superman, but that Flash is just a worse version of the original, nothing new.

A good cover is a good cover, but I can't say that I see the point of recycling old designs. It's not old enough to be nostalgic, and most of these designs bring nothing new to the table.

The Batgirl one is awful. Superman and Action Comics are my favorites.

The Action one is amazing. GL is also amazing. Gotta love man boi Sinestro.

Does Wonder Woman not were that fullbody costume anymore?

These series better go beyond #52 by a decently large margin or this milestone will be almost pointless in my opinion.

The covers are eye-catching as usual, but I must say...the article stated that the characters are suppose to somewhat reflect on what the characters look now. Why isn't Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash, and Aquaman updated? The only one I see obviously updated is Batgirl.

They all look good, but Catwoman and Wonder Woman for me.

This is dope... def gonna pick up some of these. I have Batman, Detective, Batgirl and Flash all signed by the original creators... i would love to get these signed as well and display them all together.

Kind of a moot point if it's no longer called "The New 52"

Though I guess you could argue it's still semi relevant since this is where these titles began, and that just because it's no longer the New 52, doesn't mean they can't homage it, just as they've homaged several other eras in DC's past

At first I didn't notice the other covers there and was wondering how everyone else was talking about all of them.

@captainmarvel4ever:What of the rumors that Rebirth will reverse the New 52 reboot? If that is the case, would honoring the #1 issues still be pointless? I mean if #52 were the final issue of each series.

Action Comics and Superman is love.

The covers look amazing. The Superman covers look amazing. I wonder will they do one for Justice League if or when it reaches 52.

A lot of these are hit or miss imo.

I like the Superman and Sinestro covers tho.

This would've been a great idea if the got some classic artists to jump on these. A Tom Grummett Superbly or Teen Titans..Maybe get Jerry Ordway to jump on a Superman book, Phil Jimmenz ( sorry for spelling it wrong) on Wonder Woman perhaps...

I dunno I would've been more excited buy that idea then a artist flip flop as it stands now

I like seeing them compared to the originals

I like some of them, at least the ones that are an update, and not just a different artist doing the cover. For example Action Comics, Batgirl and Green Arrow shows the character with how they look now, and some of the others don't, even though their look has changed.

@jonny_anonymous: I think she still does but it's because that's how she looked like in #1 and that's the whole theme.

@batman3000: Well Sinestro, Superman, Batgirl and Green Arrow all have the current costumes and not past costumes. Why wouldn't they do the same for Wonder Woman?

@jonny_anonymous: Yeah just realized that. I'm not sure as I don't read Wonder Woman. Perhaps she did get her old costume back.

Diana got her old costume back (I think two issues ago).

The Art of Ben Oliver is very beautiful.

None of them are anything to write home about. The only thing that comes across is that half of the titles now have blander, less stylised art.

Its a shame that he hasn't received more work from DC. I've been wanting him to headline an event book for forever.

Many of the covers have excellent art but this is by far the laziest variant month DC could of thought of. Also what is left to celebrate with the new 52? It was excellent sales wise for the short term then fizzled because of terrible story telling and direction.
