Chris Evans Wants to Extend Contract With Marvel

Comic book movies are a no-brainer for actors now, but before Marvel hit it big with their "Phase One" films, superhero films were a gamble, and actor Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, and once played Johnny Storm in two Fantastic Four films. During an interview with Collider, Evans talked about his possible future with Marvel, after his contract ends when Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 & 2 come out in 2018 and 2019.

“Listen, if Marvel wants me they got me. I’ve never had such a relationship where you have such—I mean look at my resume, I’m used to being on set being like, ‘Ah is this movie gonna be terrible?’ Marvel just can’t stop making great movies, they do it in their sleep. It’s wonderful directors and producers and actors and scripts, and it’s like a playground as an actor.”

Evans went on to talk about jumping on to originally become Captain America.

“It’s so mind-boggling that I was so tentative in the beginning to jump onboard. What an asshole I would be if I hadn’t done this. I mean can you imagine? Kicking myself—I’d never forgive myself!”

Evans is in full support of what Marvel has been doing with its cinematic universe and it's pretty obvious that he'd love to continue a working relationship with the company. The next film Evans will appear in is Captain America: Civil War which hits theaters on May 6, 2016.

Couldn't see anyone else playing Cap', he has my vote.

I hope he gets his contract renewed. I can't imagine anyone else playing Captain America and if he doesn't have his contract renewed, then at least kill him in Infinity War.

I was guessing maybe that Captain America would get killed in the 2nd Infinity war movie. It would be a cool moment and comic nod if he was to give his big speech standing up to Thanos and keep fighting but ultimately perishing and that rallies the defeated avengers or something to that effect. Not that I would not love to see Chris Evans keep playing Cap forever, dude is perfect for that role.

Personally, I'd rather have Jackman be Wolverine more, THAT'S the contract extension I Wanna see.

He is pretty great as captain america. Seems like he changed ideas about reprising his role as captain america

@rbt: Oh, yeah, Chris is a great Cap. But, I legit can't see anyone else being Logan. Never have I seen an actor embrace his role more than Jackman does Wolverine.

This is fantastic news, to hear that he's even OPEN to it, but I can't help but feel the headline is a little much. He didn't flat-out say he wants to extend. Just that if Marvel wanted him to continue, he'd do it.

Maybe I'm being pedantic. =)

IMHO, Chris can be Cap for as long as it takes...He's playing that role to perfection. Salute!

Of course he wants that..who wouldn't? That said, I hope he gets it, I think he's done great job.

Wouldn't have it any other way. Can't actually see anyone else playing my favorite Marvel superhero.

I don't see why anyone would not want to be part of the biggest movie franchise right now.

He's a good Captain America but I wouldn't say he isn't replaceable.I leave that for actors like Robert Downey's Iron Man,Wesley Snipes's Blade and Patrick Stewart's Professor X.

Not sure he's the ideal Captain America, but I'd rather him continue than for Steve to be recast. As much as Cheadle and Ruffalo were good recasts, I still prefer for recasts to be minimalised.

Some actors may desire different artistic paths. Evans, for example, was ready to give up acting and begin directing.

Love him as Cap, he plays the role perfectly in my opinion. I still think he will "die" in civil war and possibly be replaced by Bucky or Sam for a time, but he will be back by Infinity War pt 2 at the latest.

Remember reading him saying something about how though it was for him to get into Cap shape and that he was kinda tired of it.

But good to hear he's happy.

(Not to dash anyone's hopes, but Hugh Jackman did reverse his own statement on Wolverine in a matter of weeks, from; "I'll do it for as long as I can." to "One last time.")

If I am honest, I think it could be put on his wife. She thought that if he went along with playing Wolverine, then he wouldn't ever be considered a serious actor. I think however Hugh grew a liking to it, but she'd rather he stop before he got too old and injured himself. Thats all just my personal speculation btw, save for the bit about when he first played Logan.

Looks like he still wants to continue making men question their sexuality, while saving the world. And that's okay.

Well if they stick to the storyline from the comics Thanos kills Captain America with a pimphand which is something I really want to see. Evans I love you as an actor but the pimphand is a must for Infinity Wars.

The more I see of him as Cap the less I like the look. It's like his face and build is shrinking at every appearance.

@mikeg1965: True He makes a good Steve and good Cap. I'd like to see a situation from the comics where he's aged by something (Say maybe Thanos in the infinity war) and he would look for someone to take up the mantel like Bucky or Sam.

Of coarse Marvel would rather keep him than recast their most important Marvel character, one of them. This is great news!

He is doing great as the character but wasn't he just last year complaining about feeling trapped he cant do anything else ... I guess them $$$$ are changing his mind lol

Great news! It's awesome seeing Chris Evans such a great actor as Captain America. He's perfect for the look and voice of Cap. He has potential as Cap, can't wait to see more.

MCU Captain America has quickly become my favorite version of the character. He embodies everything I love about the character from the comics and Chris Evans plays the role perfectly. If Marvel does decide to continue with the Captain America franchise after Infinity Wars, I'm all for Evans continue in that role.
