Since the movie Birdman won the Oscars I was wondering people's thoughts on the elephant in the rooms regarding Hanna-Barbera. When we cartoon lovers see the title we think Birdman and when we see the outfit we think Blue Falcon. Regardless on how good you think the movie is do people on here believe it maybe actually be an artsy way to rip-off the company? Last I knew the movie makes no mention that the name or outfit oddly resemble Hanna-Barbera trademarks.

????

The movie its terribly overrated, but this makes no sense.

Its like Nightcrawler, isnt based on the character of the same name.

Its just another movie in the Meta/Blurred line with reality movie, a genre that its too common today.

Besides Iñarritu Faux Deepness all over the place and pseudo intellectual shenanigans.

i bet they never even heard of blue falcon. and even if they did take that idea, it was barely a part of the movie. the character is irrelevant, its only purposes was to 1) reference keaton's career with batman 2) show how the protagonist was only popular in the past and wanted to redeem himself and 3) to show the protagonist's mental instability in a weird way. they could have made up any character and the presentation would have been the same.

Right, I just mean his design. Looks like a cross between Joe the Condor (Gatchaman) and Captain Falcon (F-Zero).

Gatchaman was a thing? I only vaguely remember it, and It seems more like a rip-off of Voltron.

Aside the name, power of flight and the general outline of the Birdman character... there doesn't appear to be all that many similarities between the two. And since HB is owned by Warner Bros, I can imagine they would indeed come after anyone stealing their stuff.

Like they apparently did when they found out FC Valencia wanted to modify their 1920's bat-themed logo.

Yes. It was totally a rip-off of that thing that it predates by over a decade. That thing that doesn't even share the same basic premise. Totally just ripped it right off.

When we cartoon lovers see the title we think Birdman and when we see the outfit we think Blue Falcon.

Personally I just thought of Birdman (Fleetway)

I didn't know about those earlier characters though

Other way around I would assume on Captain Falcon between this and the 20 or so year gap.

You see 'Birdman' in the movie only 3-4 minutes in total, its a so little amount of time that nobody would care or pay attention if its rip off or not...
