The Avengers, easy. DKR was also really good, but not on the level of Avengers.

That's based off of a novel, not a comic book.

The Dark Knight Rises was the best film, though The Avengers was the best comic film.

Oh, decisions.

@inferiorego: There's only a limit to how good a Tom Cruise film can be. After all he is in it.

Can't believe I did it, but I voted DKR.

And who voted for the Amazing Spider-Man when the Avengers and TDKR are there?

Glad Dredd's seeing some representation. From a completely objective standpoint (ie no prior knowledge of of the source materials), Dredd probably steals this one.

But this is a comic forum, and as a comic fan I voted Avengers.

I agree, but the Avengers wasn't the best comic film of all time, just of the year.

Is it bad that when I look at the Academy's list for Best Picture nominations this year, all I see is a list of movies that were not as good as The Avengers?

In order, Avengers, Dredd, Amazing Spider-Man, Dark Knight Rises, John Carter.

My two favorite movies this year were Dredd and Looper. In a year dominated by overlong epics in need of an editor (see The Hobbit, Django Unchained, and even The Dark Knight Rises in some respects) both Dredd and Looper presented tight stories that never overstayed their welcome, said exactly what they wanted to say, and rolled the credits. The Dark Knight Rises was a great conclusion to Nolan's trilogy, but it has some pretty deep flaws. The Avengers is a ton of fun, but it felt a lot more like fan service than an actual movie. Really great fan service, but it didn't leave an especially lasting impression on me. The Amazing Spider-Man did a solid job with characterization, I felt, but the plot itself felt rather weak in spots. I never did see John Carter.

Anyway, Dredd is led by great performances from both Urban and Thirlby, a well paced and written script that kept itself focused while at the same time giving a great glimpse into the bigger world that the characters inhabited, the electronic score was really really great and reminded me of a high octane version of Drive's score last year which I also loved, and the action was brutal, bloody fun. I still haven't decided if Dredd or Looper is my favorite movie of 2012, but of the list presented above, Dredd wins handily.

Avengers.

TDKR took itself too seriously, and ended up being silly as f*ck.

avengers was a good family popcorn movie, i liked him very much and watched him two times like the dark knight rises. but dark knight rises, was a really clever movie. he was the best this year.

I love Dredd, but when in come down to the details, the story is incredible simple, needed due to budget reasons.

Batman manages a much more complitated story, and pretty good, so the Dark Knight it is.

TDKR was bad. I don't know what people see in it? Nolan took on too much and it flopped. He just ended up making a confusing movie with no real point and destroyed a lot of character development along the way.

I liked The Amazing Spider-Man but not THAT much to take it as the best movie...

Hardest choice ever. I loved the Avengers because was funny and epic, but TDKR was epic in an emotional way, and has a lot of meaning.

Both fit very well too....

Dammit I go by Batman because it was THE END and The Avengers will have a 2nd movie.

It's be a FANTASTIC year for Comic movies.

Amazing Spiderman, The Dark Knight Rises, Dredd. All brilliant movies, and I've had so much pleasure in my repeated viewings of each. But there can only be one winner, and I had no hesitation.

Avengers.

Avengers. DKR was good but to me it felt lacking, like it wasn't as good as it should have been. ASM I enjoyed but it pretty much was a remake of the first movie with a different Cast. And I really need to see Dredd.
