Is there any hero without some kind of death that surrounds them becoming a hero or getting powers? Or a hero that lives a normal life with both mom, best friend and dad still alive?

I was hoping for human heroes. Gods and aliens etc shouldn't be included.

(Exception Captain America, Iron Man)

Correction, it should be Every hero* instead of "Any hero"

@marvete_e_dcnauta: which origin? I thought his uncle died or something to that effect before he came to dc...I am probably wrong... technically bob Reynolds isn't a hero because of a death or at least not at first... thor... wonder woman... squirrel girl... dang there is way more than I thought. .. but most have some sort of tragedy in their past or they are atoning for something

Yeah, but he wasn't motivated by those deaths to become a hero

@thorson:

The destruction of his planet wasn't what caused him to be a hero though. He always just wanted to use his powers for good. Even in the n52, a continuity where the Kents died before he became Superman, Clarks motivations remained selfless.

Death to me is still associated with Superman. Without his planets demise he wouldn't have become the Superman that we know.

@thorson: Yeah. But he is not being a hero due to his grief for his fallen world. He does it because Clark is just a really great guy :)

@thorson: TIM DRAKE pre-New52.

Even though he had a rich family with 2 loving parents and wealth that rivaled Bruce Wayne's, he still made the conscious decision of becoming Robin simply because he wanted to help his idol get though a personal tragedy, and he genuinely wanted to help.

Invincible/Mark Grayson. Things of course get worse but the tale of him getting his superpowers starts with him taking out trash at his fast food job and flinging it so far that it becomes a brick joke. Once I think about it, I love that simplicity. No deaths or forced battle against some nemesis, just a simple trash joke shows him gaining his super strength.

Invincible comes to mind.

Beat me to it. :)

I loved that part, too. Especially when he told his parents, to which his father nonchalantly replied: "That's great, Mark. Would you pass the potatoes?"

After all, why wouldn't he be a superhero? He had no reason not to be. His father was one, too, after all.

@battle_forum_junkie: Oh yeah, that also gave me a flashback of Nolan's borderline "eh, whatever" expression. lol I wish the series stayed being mostly about fun for longer.

@gunswordfist_: Yeah, me too. I think there really started to be a shift in the tone after the Vultirimite War arc. But that's actually one of my favorite bits about Invincible. As Mark matures so does the series as a whole. And as he begins to see more moral grey areas, and endures more horrible events his perspective of the world around him changes, and the perspective of the series changes as well.

I think it's one of those rare comics that has to be considered as a whole in order to be fully appreciated.
