Hmmm, I dunno. I'm not a big anime guy, and I like SAO quite a bit. I'd have to say I like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. ("Lord Yupa! Kill him and you'll be famous!"...kills me every time!.), edges SOA out though.
@godkingthor: Jimmy Kudo, teenage detective who got shrunk into an 8-year-old body, and now solves cases behind "Sleeping Kogorou", his girlfriend's dad. It's usually episodic, but sometimes it has arcs with the main antagonist the black organization. But I prefer the episodic plots, I've had enough of the black org. But people say those episodes/cases are still good/relevant. Just up to taste. It's a 800 + episode with different cases, so you pretty much chose which case you want to watch. I'd suggest starting from Season 3 if you're not OK with the animation being below-par almost all popular anime these days.
@llehdevil: Doesn't sound like something I would like. In general I don't like any criminal mystery type of stuff. But especially in anime I look for something where there are warriors who fight with hand to hand weapons or no weapons at all and strive to be more powerful. I dont like guns, or crime mysteries or ghosts or anything along those lines.
Just my opinion, but i have seen tons of animes which i believe to be far better than SAO. SAO was quite good at the beginning but quality dropped after the first half of season 1. Again, just an opinion.

I agree. the fairy stuff and gun stuff was kinda lame.
@godkingthor: You wouldn't like DC but I think you'd like Kingdom the manga, it's action/war/historical, check it out, I haven't read it though. Check out the big 4 as well, like One Piece, just skip the starting seasons and see if you can tag along (I personally wouldn't recommend it though).
